How often should you take your van for a run ? (1 Viewer)

i guess it’s easy to say that if I have to consider this, then I need to get out for more holidays

Despite owning a similar motorhome some years ago, I’ve forgotten how I used to deal with it.

Assuming I’m plugged in while stored on my drive, I do no other ‘winterising’ or prep, other than leaving it in first gear with the handbrake off.

How often should it get taken for a drive ?

And would you suggest any more frequently in winter due to worse weather (for brakes etc)

.... I will be away as much as poss, but would you say to take it for a spin once a fortnight ?

At least once a month during winter, twice is month is better though. And make sure the handbrake is not on.

Two to four weeks, mainly to keep the brake discs clean and the tyres round! And make sure it is a decent run to properly warm up the mechanicals and recharge the batteries. A couple of times round the block will do more damage than doing nothing.

A nice run down through France to the Med and back should keep everything moving nicely. A 2000 mile trip will keep both the van and your batteries charged mid winter.

20 plus miles every two to four weeks.
You should follow the advice re over wintering,otherwise it cost you dear.

We try every 2 to 3 weeks but do park with the handbrake on (its in storage) If the handbrakes off don't forget to chock it

It is in a nice dry garage though no problems whatsoever, starts instantly drives like new at 4 years old

I know what you mean. It happens when you get older.
Used to be almost daily at one time.

Interesting. Do you put it up on chocks so the tyres don't get a "set" on them? Or maybe increase the pressures?

No

As a minimum, once a week, 20+ miles. Usually involving some shopping at the supermarket. I don't drive it when there is obvious salt on the roads. I also remember to run the cab aircon.

Ours rarely stands for more than 2 weeks as we use it year round. If we are not going to use it for more than a couple of weeks we go out to lunch in it every 2 weeks (usually 20 or 30 miles away) to give it a bit of a run and then plug it in to the mains for a few hours to make sure the batteries are well charged up.
