She’s just about to start a digital detox challenge. It's about how much time we actually spend on our devices. Its like you think you don’t spend that much time but in reality it's absorbing your life. The results are pretty scary.
I’m going to monitor mine and see what I’m up to. Emma’s been recording hers for a week now, she’s not someone that’s always got something stuck in her hand but with her weekly use of around 17 hours that’s just under 37days a year, so over a month of the year is spent in front of some sort of screen.

I’m actually quite frightened as to what my results are going to show.

You have to be a little thoughtful with your recording of time spent, if you’ve had the iplayer on say that shouldn’t be taken into the total and we are not using devices for work so its purely personal use, social media, research, news etc.

Go on have a check on your usage and it might tempt you into taking some of your life back from that little screen we’ve all come so attached to.

On that note I’m going to have another coffee and see who responds to this post lol.

Not sure if the facility is there on everyones device but on apple its screen time in settings.

Way too much, first thing I do in the morning is check emails…

added;

but… I do a lot of reading up on items (motorhomes, diy, woodturning etc.) and watching tutorials when we have a home project. But I know I waste a lot of time, brain drain, which isn’t healthy. There is always a healthy balance to everything, and sometimes you need an awareness to understand how much time is wasted.

Far far too much.
But only PC. MHF, Biker forum. Car/bike Searches. Bit of You Tube. Few others, but very limited.
Don't do phone or any of the other media thingys.

Have you read this yet??

I’ve just turned mine on to see. But it’s a lot, I bet.
I’m on it a lot when I’m not at work, and I only work for 7 months of the year 18 hours a week.

Morning Shaun….that’s a few more seconds to your count reading this post.

Yep - again too much - it tells me at the end of each week and is scary. But the time spent on my devices comes second to the amount I spend on my kindle reading - I lose days!

I have to say that this is mainly in winter, I quarter my time in the summer with light warm days when I lose all my time in the garden In stead:giggle:

About 4 hours it has taken over from the tele with its reality progs and other rubbish

Probably too much time posting here, daily.

Offset by only 10 minutes making a couple of calls on the smartphone. I only check emails every 10 days.
I prefer paper books to the kindle.;)

I use my iPad to play Spotify and BBC sounds or other radio, it stores part of my music collection. I read newspapers and magazines on the Readily app. TV is watched on it. I have recipes open when I’m cooking, and patterns when crafting. I use it to plan trips in the van, investigating new places to explore. Google maps is used regularly. I use the calender all the time. I back up my camera photographs to it when I’m away.
I write emails, do on line shopping and my supermarket order.
My iPad can easily be used 6 - 8 hours a day when at home in the winter, though much less in the summer or when away in the van.
My concern isn’t how many hours I spend on my tablet, it’s what would happen if I lost it!

I now spend too much time on my computer when I'm home but a lot less when I'm away so......as long as that doesn't change, I'm reasonably happy!
It also means that I engage my brain (sometime) longer than when I'm watching the TV which I'm now doing less of.

Like many, too much time. MHF and Facebook where I admin a group and also keep in touch with distant relations. Editing old progs and videos and, during the first lockdown, getting ideas on youtube for the shed build and subsequent model train build, thankfully all finished. Vowed to learn to play the keyboard but that still waits. Oh and wordle has added to my online time by a few minutes a day.
Edit: As nicholsong, banking, covid reporting, reading newspapers etc.

I probably use my laptop more than most since I am an ex-pat and do not speak Polish, so I use it for

Reading newspaper
BBC News
e-mails, personal and managing my house rental.
Banking
Money transfers
Skype calls, both video and phone.
MH forums x 3
Aviation videos and news
Recently, Covid stats checks
Technical research
Polish law translation

I have not clocked the average daily usage but it is probably a lot, but much less when touring

I ain't saying!

I'd suggest that's about fours months of 'available time' (7hrs/day) a year, not a mere 37days.
You need to do other 'stuff', like eat & sleep.

I thought these devices were supposed to save time and improve productivity?
At least they're preventing some from getting into mischief...

I won’t be monitoring mine as I spend a lot of time playing games on my Nintendo Switch and don’t intend to stop anytime soon!

I get a weekly report from my iPad which tells me how many hours on average I spend on my devices (iphone, ipad, macbook) it ranges from 6 - 7 hrs/day.
but i use my ipad when I am rehearsing with the band, gigging and practising at home which probably accounts for 10-12 hours a week

I was preparing to go to town this morning in the car. Keys, wallet, phone? I found it where it normally sits, on the charging tray in the car, which I last used last Tuesday. I had not missed it before this morning.

You have just used a rude four letter work twice in one post.:giggle:
