Hi all. I've just asked for prices for a pitch at a B&B in France. The price is €10 per night......with an extra charge of €8 for hook up!! 😱 My husband is a Yorkshireman, for goodness sake, I can't tell him that, it'll be the end of him!!!! What do you reckon is the average price for hook up in France? If it's any more than €8 even I, as a Lancashire girl, will be keeling over!! :ROFLMAO:

BTW, I can go without electric. My question was "What do you reckon is the average price for hook up in France?" :)

Electric on c and c sites is £4.85 in June, so about on par with uk!

I try to get electric only when I expect to use the heating, although if on a pitch for a week in cloudy weather in Autumn I would need it, but if the price keeps going up I may invest in a Genny

No room for saving cash when your van is full of pigeons and Whippets.
Hasn’t he got a turbine linked up to his bike yet ?? Or a Hamster wheel ??
Tha can’t take it with thee lad…

Energy costs and exec wages are only ever going to go in one direction

€8 = about £6.85 which doesn't look too high but in my opinion it's still too much. Especially as many French sites are fused (tripped) at a max of less that our normal 16A, so you can't use a great amount of kWh in 24 hours.

2€ per 12 hours on a aire I use. Just looked at the cost sheet. all on a 'honesty' basis as well.

Depends what the site is offering? we pay about 18-23 euros (+ 1 euro a night tourist tax) per night when in France. That is the ASCI rate, and will give a hook-up, and nice size pitch. Usually such a site will have a swimming pool, shop/bakery, and be very well maintained, with other activities too (boules etc…).

I think we were paying about 1 euro per kWh on average last year in France/Italy/Germany

Trouble is some are spoiling it for the many again. I know of motorhomers and caravaners who think as they are paying then they will use it to the extent that they run the heating on 24.7 and open windows to cool if required. Others who leave a fan heater on in the awning when out so it is warm when they return.

Maybe it’s only that cost as they know how bad the Brits are on using the supplied power. Induction hobs, and electric heaters etc.

Using many sites through France through Spring-Summer i'd say €3.00 to €3.50, you may pay €4.00 in high season in a touristic area.

The first site we stayed on in the U.K. wanted £12 per night for electric, doubt we’d use that at home in a week.
That made me sort the solar toot sweet.
We will use ehu when abroad to run the fridge, that way we don’t need to worry about finding gas, plus
the 900watt mc squashy kettle. Everything else is 12v.
Power is obviously included in the site fee on all the sites we’ve been too abroad.
We very seldom turn on the battery charger as the solar sorts the rest of our usage, both home and abroad.
So even 6amp will do us most of the time.

At 16A/4 kw per hour you can in 24 hours use 96 kw @ 20 p per kw that £19.20 consumed!

I have never paid anything above the going rate for electric.
Gas for the fridge, double battery for electric and solar and alternator to top them up.

12 nights at that site would buy your Yorkshire hubby another battery and you will have that bank of electricity as long as the battery lasts

Tightfisted non Yorkie !

Surely people check before they book a site or stay what the charges are, if it’s to much don’t stay.

I didn't get there and then ask!! I emailed for prices....and thank goodness I did. We won't be stopping there, despite not needing electricity.

18euros a night with electric seems reasonable to me try finding a site for that here

But, in France, it's a lot when it's just a pitch, water, electric and shower/wc.

Be interesting to see how much it costs to build, fit, maintain, staff and pay all the associated costs of running a campsite, offset against occupancy rates and seasonal use. I bet 18 euros a night is very cheap. Any campsite owners out there to comment??

What did you expect? Herds of Wilderbeest?

LOL Not at all but we're currently on a site that has a swimming pool, restaurant, shop, washing machines, showers/wcs, free access to a 15 acre lake with activities etc.......for €20 a night including electricity :)
