MH
Looking
I know it’s how long is a piece of string question, and at the moment with demand crazy it’s different and they’ll be surplus post covid.
but if you say bought a MH for £67k now, and resold it in 12 months/5years, what would you expect as a very rough figure for it to hold its value to? Obviously completely depends on wear and tear and mileage etc etc etc and if you bought something that was in demand/popular layout etc

NORMALLY
you drive out of the dealership and depreciation hits at around 40% in the first year then 10% each year after

AT PRESENT
it's weird our 30K moho is worth 40K so work it out

Too many economic variables outside of our control to make a call on future values, especially with current cost of living increases, which may well increase over the next couple of years, decreasing many peoples disposable income.
I would say.
Buy the van, enjoy it, use it as much as you can, make memories, and dont worry about future values as you cant put a monetary value on life experiences, the good ones are priceless.(y)
Have fun

The demand the pandemic bought with it, has meant there was no depreciation this last couple of years. However people buying at today's much higher prices might not be so lucky, but demand is still high so maybe they will. The world is still a bit crazy.

I no longer buy vehicles based on their future value as I’ve no control over future demand and market sentiment.

I once bought a new BMW based on the colour and accessories that would hold their value most. When I came to trade it in the price offered by the dealer was stupidly low.

Now I buy what I really want and enjoy enjoy owning and using. I leave deprecation to another day

Thanks all. I think we’ve got no choice but to buy at these high prices as can’t wait for a few years to see and just enjoy it

When considering depreciation you also have to take account of the value of the memories and enjoyment factor the vehicle facilitates. That is generally price less.
If you have an Autotrail then you need to take a bit more off for the frustration of dealing with water ingress each year.

When we bought our Hymer B544 (62 reg) 3 years ago, I took into account depreciation of £2000 pa plus any running costs, insurance/road tax/servicing/repairs etc.

We plan keeping till I got to 70 as its 4250kg.

I think you've sort of answered your own question if you decide that you're getting one anyway it's a matter of just hoping for the best. In our financial planning we have all our vehicles as zero worth. If they are worth anything it's a bonus. In the case of our motorhome a 2014 Chausson flash 10 I suspect after almost 8 years from new it probably isn't worth a whole lot less than we paid for it but that wasn't why we bought it we bought it to use

i think the expected drop in price post covid isnt going to happen shortage of new vans will keep prices at this level after a couple of years we may get a slow down in demand but the new pricing will have become the norm by then

Thanks mitzimad thats kind of what I want to hear to convince the OH it isn’t worth waiting/pricing and availability isn’t going to improve.
