How much for a pitch!!

We were in the company of a couple who said they were from Sheffield. (I've applied to have their Tyke status removed) who said, with a straight face, that they happily pay £70 a night to stay in St. Ives.
They compounded the felony by adding that one year, they stayed 'up the hill' on a site @£35 a night but the walk back at the end of the day was too much.
Other than the fact that I wouldn't pay £35, hell, they could have caught a taxi for a fiver.
It’s because of gullible people like these who are dumb enough to pay it that greedy site owners will continue to keep hiking site fees up year after year, there’s just as much demand for sites all over Europe but I’ve yet to come across any that charge the rip off prices that greedy uk site owners charge…….
….Just sayin

We're on a site on Spain, €16.5 a night, including EHU 10 amps and WiFi that's good enough to stream TV, water and drain on pitch, swimming pool, restaurant and shower blocks. It's next to the beach too
Where’s that site then, please tell.

More fool you for paying it.you must have got too much money.
...a bit harsh perhaps! I only raised it for funsters to guess the location (country maybe). it seemed appropriate at the time but possibly not, will let you decide.

The site is possibly not what you would consider a normal motorhome site, albeit motorhomes can certainly use it. Sort of a 'one-off' type holiday really, not in this country. But where...

I have had our MH for 14 years. I know that campsite prices have gone up over those years, so I did a calculation using £15 as a mid-14 year price.

I calculated that, if I had used a campsite for 130 nights a year for 14 years, that would have equalled what I paid for the MH. Bit of a mu's game.

As it is, I think I paid for about 10 nights over those years and the max was £18

Whereabouts in Spain are you? from ‘interested’ in Los Narejos, Murcia 😊

Stratford upon Avon show is now charging £20 a night to park in a field I notice. Yes there’s a bit of entertainment I think but they really want you there to buy stuff. I expect the other shows will be similar. Most of us go to these sorts of things to meet Funsters and not buy things. It’s hardly cheap camping anymore though. I don’t think I’ll turn a hair at Camping Car Park prices or Acsi!

We paid a lot, coming down through France 3 weeks ago, I think the average was about €30 per night. I had little choice as most sites were still closed. I'm hoping for better on the way back in May, or sooner of this awful weather doesn't clear up.

I drive past motorhomes that seem to be on the drive every time I go past, maybe the pitch fees have put them off going anywhere
It's not just the cost of pitch fees that's limiting how often we use our van, but the pitch fees don't help :whistle2:

The cost of everything has gone up over recent years, the higher cost of motorhome ownership is only one factor in how much money people have available for leisure activities and holidays. The 2021 freeze in personal tax allowance is really beginning to bite now and has the largest impact on my finances but I am lucky enough to still be able to get away when I want to.

If, as some authorities would like, we were ever all forced onto campsites, it would not be the increasing cost, which we could probably absorb, which would make us give up, but not wishing to adapt to campsite life after 16 years wildcamping that would do it.

We rarely use campsites but it is hard to believe some of these prices. However, in May and June, we are off for six weeks. Have just booked 3 different campsites in the same area for 5 nights. Just the two of us with vehicle and rooftop tent. Only basic facilities, no electricity or mod cons. Cost £780, approx £155 per night!!

Any guesses?

Safari in Kenya or something like that?

I largely agree. We don’t wild camp but do use Aires, CLs etc. recently on a CAMC site (voucher to use) small site, for them, 80 pitches, half full. Was quiet and OK. However I would think certain parts of the site would be very claustrophobic and feel crowded if the site was full. We would certainly hate that.

When you have picked up your dogs deposits 100% of the time, imagine how annoying it is when you tread in one someone else hasn't picked up! It annoys me when people without dogs moan about dog poo and when people with kids moan about paying more in school holidays, because I have to too and don't have any kids!!!
It's a sh-tty old life isn't it?

More than 10 years ago I stopped at a campsite at Ullswater to ask the price for just parking, not needing their facilities. 100 pitches, 5 occupied. They wanted about £20 then and would not budge.

We drove 200m up the road and parked in an idyllic pastoral spot. Sod'em!

Hard to find free spots in the Lakes now Geoff. Still a few if you know where to go of course. Certainly hard to find something for £20 or less. There was a right whinge on FB just now over the Club site at Bowness charging £55 a night mid summer. Seems cheap compared to some posted on this thread! Its a horrible site though by the looks of it. Surrounded by roads and crammed in. Sadly our favourite CL closed a year or so ago not far from Ullswater. We were the last ones to use it Christmas before last. £16 a night then including hookup.

Everything thing had gone mad, soaring prices of Motorhomes, caravans and cars ,went to look at new Volvo £40000 + for decent model Road tax £590 , going up in April salesman said from memory £620 or £610, these industries will soon sound the deathnell, Salesmen said can you wonder why some are struggling

My mate, of 30 years from our sailing days in Greece, is now Master of the NT Steam Yacht 'Gondola' on Coniston Water, bit different from oil tankers he used to drive, so I would hope he could fix me up with a parking space.

More to the point, how are plans going for this year's European Tour? Any dates yet? I am planning on us setting sail for France mid-May, if house is tidied up by then.

Its all action stations here at the moment. Raft of vehicles including the van getting through MOT's etc and the van is off down to Leicester sometime soon to get an extra solar panel fitted a second battery and a Victron controller. The plan is Isle of Arran and maybe the Lake district end of April / early May for a month, three months in France Mid June to September then somewhere in Southern England back end.
