How much for a pitch!!

Since when did a pitch with electric cost £90 a night. Granted it’s over the start of the late May bank holiday and I get the rule of supply and demand but I could have rented a six birth static on the same site for £120. Is this now the norm?
Totally agree and the way prices are going there will be more wild camping and more people being unable to continue. It used to be an affordable pastime that young families could enjoy.

Paid $105 once for just a bit of mud (tent camping...) on the Big Sur in California. Very basic facilities. Definitely no electric.
Had a fire pit though.....as Americans like to burn things when they camp.

This was the view when lying down.

These UK sites being quoted are amateurs ::bigsmile:

In 2023, I paid €123 a night on a site near Biaritz (there were four of us). Le Pavilion Royal And it wasn't up to much.

This year in August, I will be paying ... deep breath ... € 136.36 per night for a five star site on the Adriatic. We always go for supermax pitch size and this site has everything we could want for the sunny beach bit of our trip this summer.

We go for sites that are what we want ,and where we want. I cannot see the point of owning an eighty grand motorhome and quibbling over the cost of being where we want to be. But it really is horses for courses. When youngest leaves school and Mrs DDC is retired, we will doubtless do more off season stuff and pay a lot less, but until then, we just deal with it.

Bah, it's not all as bad. Most of us won't pay the stupid pricing.

Locally near my house in suffolk (so useless to us) there is a aire for £5 a ni, a campsite with no shower block for £10 in a small village with many pubs, and an onsite coffee/breakfast place. No electricity offerred at either but who needs that?

I suspect a lot of this is becuase a lot of people not on this forum want EHU and totally take piss this time of year.
Where in Suffolk? Please often over that way visiting family. Be nice to broaden my trips. Thanks x

But why should there be a charge for a dog. They aren't allowed in toilets / showers and usually any other building, you have to clean up after them and make it like they weren't there yet you get charged for it. I won't go anywhere that charges for a dog.
Why ? Because they know that a lot of people won't leave their dogs in care, so they screw you for the maximum amount of money.

We're on a site on Spain, €16.5 a night, including EHU 10 amps and WiFi that's good enough to stream TV, water and drain on pitch, swimming pool, restaurant and shower blocks. It's next to the beach too.
Please advise where you are, we are going to Spain next month for 10 weeks. Thank you!

To be fair to them, that dos include entertainment and spa/leisure facilities by the looks of it.

I baulk at paying 25-30+ esp without EHU. Some say it’s being mean, if one can afford a motorhome, one should swallow it up. I have different view: I’ve bought the off grid capable infrastructure so a site owner doesn’t have to. Supply and demand comes in I guess but I’m never paying £90 a night!
This country is oft referred to as rip off Britain and it seems to be true: everyone is out for their buck - the latest thing now is charging a site fee then EHU then additional adults then etc etc. it’s tricky sometimes to see what the true cost is.
Go to the continent and there’s plenty of aires and sites which are very reasonable and more closely aligned to the facilities they provide.
Since buying our motorhome after a long break of 17years since we were avid caravaners, I’m beginning to think we’ve made a mistake - this country is very much anti camper and motorhomers: change my mind.

'Change your mind'? That is easy in that you have given the answer yourself - go to the Continent.

Just paid £92 for a night in a lovely hotel in Liverpool right on the waterfront. That price is ridiculous for a pitch.

Well yes, but I was hoping for a more pleasurable experience without having to do that! Crossing 21 miles of water costs quite a bit too!!

What does it cost them for a dog to be on site??? What services do they provide for the dog?

It probably costs them by losing customers who only want dog free sites.

The amount of dog owners that I’ve ever met (all of them) always and I mean always say that they pick up their dog shit 100% all of the time…🤔
However wherever I go I see dog shit all over the place including on campsites and I’ve even seen funsters leave their dog shit behind…😳

So if you were a campsite warden how much would you want paying to go around every day and clean up someone else’s shit…🤔

And you are closer to the ground than most of us, so you smell it more.

Interesting reading all the replies from people who have motorhomes that have quite a high new price who don't want to pay a lot for pitches. On another thread recently someone was saying that people with electric cars wouldn't mind paying a lot for charging on a pitch because they on average have cars with a higher list price. I think this goes to show there's not a huge link between what you pay for a vehicle and what you are willing to pay to use it.

Bon Repos Costa Brava. They only let you book a month at a time. We've booked a second month, but we have to change pitch

The self entitlement of people nowadays. My mum thinks it's funny that I've recently spent £103,000 on a new Malibu 600 db k and £101,000 on a new Cayman GTS, yet won't spend £2.75 on a litre of Rose's lime juice. I've seen that juice go up 10p a time nearly every two months for the last year and find it annoying.

It's not about the initial cost of the product, it's about the value for money and I think a lot of companies have lost the understanding of that concept.

My idea is to vote with your pocket. I won't pay £90 for a pitch. I invited my cousin to come down to stay. Looked at the White Hart accommodation in Swindon. It's £95 a night for a double room. The rooms are beautiful. It's ridiculous to think £90 a pitch is value for money.

I'm thinking these self entitled people running companies that over charge will learn the hard way and understand there are a vast amount of people that will NOT pay the price they want.

Rant over.

Best regards,

Clewie.

I hope they have their sheffield status removed and are publicly humiliated for paying that much
😉😂😂😂😂
Ow much???? We have friends in Sheffield who would need to be revived with smelling salts at those prices!

Well just paid £180 for 4 nights on the quiet site plus £32 for the dogs in April as kids are off. But i dont care as lovely site in a lovely place.

When you have picked up your dogs deposits 100% of the time, imagine how annoying it is when you tread in one someone else hasn't picked up! It annoys me when people without dogs moan about dog poo and when people with kids moan about paying more in school holidays, because I have to too and don't have any kids!!!

Any chance you can tell us where it is?

yes i agree.and the nicer these vans are getting the higher the site price is getting

We rarely use campsites but it is hard to believe some of these prices. However, in May and June, we are off for six weeks. Have just booked 3 different campsites in the same area for 5 nights. Just the two of us with vehicle and rooftop tent. Only basic facilities, no electricity or mod cons. Cost £780, approx £155 per night!!

Any guesses?
