It’s a really basic question but I just discovered that the flat hose I bought is only about 5m long and I guess that’s probably not enough.

I have a large (20 litre) jerry can with spout for when the supply is really hard to get to - but how long a hose should I carry to be confident of being able to reach the tap on most sites?

Thanks

Chris

For taps on sites I would recommend a collapsible hose which takes up hardly any space but expands once you turn on the tap. I bought mine on Ebay. Is collapses down to fit in a small Pyrex bowl size but expands to about 30m.
For Aires, I have a normal hose (blue) which is about 12m long. Long enough to park wrong side of filler but still be able to reach.
I also have a watering can.

I don’t think there’s any rights and wrongs - some sites only have one tap so whatever you buy might not reach the tap from your pitch.
Just go with the best compromise which suits you.

I have a 30ft hose that you don’t need to take off the reel regardless of how little of it you need to use, I can’t recall what it’s called though. It’s a little slower to fill than a normal hose but you don’t have the faff of having to take it all off to use it.

15m if you want. But you can manage quite OK with a watering can in most instances. Sites have hoses at either the entrance or at the motorhome service point.

If you had bought a quality motorhome like a Frankia you wouldn't have had to ask that question as they come fitted with a hose on a reel.;)
Our British built Autosleeper came supplied with a filler hose!!

But, we now carry two lengths of normal hose, both about 10 metres long, and a couple of straight connectors as well as a collection of tap fittings
We also have a 13 litre watering can.
that seems to cater for every eventuality.

We have had flat and collapsible hoses in the past, but find they don’t last very long before they start leaking.

Since 2011 I've managed with a 4m hose and a 10ltr carrier and never been stuck. I did carry a hose on a reel for years but never used it so when we changed vans 2 years ago I left it behind and don't miss it.

I think the collapsible hoses are the way to go, first, they weigh a lot less, second, they take up less space and third, they expand in length.
I have 3 hoses plus straight connectors, 2 x 22.5m and 1 x 15m (expanded length). So, if I can see the tap in my binoculars, i can usually reach it. ?

We have two collapsible hoses, one 30m and one 15m. We also have a 3m and 6m garden hoses for use at motorhome points. All the hoses can be joined together. And we carry a 10 litre watering can and a 23 litre water container on wheels. And a small box of various tap adaptors and joiners.

Built up over the years as we come across different scenarios in UK and Europe.

The same length as the piece of string. Don’t use one now as use a 10L plastic Jerry can - easier to store than a watering can as long as you have the king with a filling attatchment.

:ROFLMAO:

I guess you also bring your kitchen sink! Seriously, when storage space is at a premium isn’t that a bit OTT?

We carry three hoses plus connectors.
A roll flat hose on a reel, a bit of a faff as you have to squeeze the water out as you roll it up.........but it is quite long, 20 m or so.
A blue food grade hose about 6-7m........good for most situations.
A short hose, less than 2m.......good for those places where you can get right up close to the tap, then the hose isn’t dragging on the wet ground.
A couple of male to male connectors so any combination or all of the hoses can be linked together.
Plus of course, the ubiquitous watering can.
All bases are covered. (y) :)

I use 15l carrier ( no spout so a pain in the %%#= to use) and a watering can that I fill then fill the 15l into the watering can. I found it less hassle than lining up for hoses etc. I love to charcoal bbq so whilst its heating I get a fill or 2. The system works?

I have 2x15m collapsible hoses, most of the time I only need one but from time to time the longer length is useful. I got mine from Argos. They are light and shrivel up to take up very little space.

Some sites do not allow you to run a hose to your motorhome on the pitch, insisting that you use the motorhome service point. I discussed this with a “jobsworth” warden who said it was a potential trip hazard and hence in the national rules. It is probably more about it annoying some caravaners.

We are on a site in Spain. The tap is about 80m away from MH. The tap is just that, a tap with no threads on the spout and a push button to get water out. There is no way to connect anything to it. Watering can x 2 works and gives you a little light exercise in the sun.

11yrs, but many years a tugger.
With a 65gal water tank, I use two 25m food grade hoses and three 20m food grade lay flat hoses, plus an Auqaroll, just in case. Uprooting and moving to the tap other everyday is not an option. :gum:

God how much water do you use a day. We get through about 30lts which is 3 watering cans full. 65 gallons would last us weeks

I have around 75m of roll flat hose on a couple of rolls. The 50m roll is little used, but so worth carrying it for the few times you do need it. The 25m roll is cut at 5m and then 10m with connectors in place, making it easy when you need a really short hose. I like long showers and for me a 65 gallon tank and a 2 gallon watering can are not good partners.

For medical reasons, which I shall not detail, one tank a day.

Slight to minor!
A low tech 10 litre watering can

This is what I switched to.

Unlike a hose you can count the litres going in too so it's simple to add a set amount without having to go in and check the level every few seconds. I.e. add 20 litres for a stop-over, easy.
