Hi.
Friend of a friend had to fill up with E10 fuel in his Bandit Motorbike on way back home last trip out - just 5 weeks ago.
He was working on cleaning the carbs etc... and happened to check the fuel filter that he also replaced only a few months ago.
Horrible gunge (phase separation?) discovered that was thankfully captured by the filter.

I hear the stories f the higher ethanol content evaporating off the fuel but didn't think it was this quick or bad?

I use an additive in my 1993 Eunos and it says on the bottle prevents gunge and there you have it 😳

I will only use Super unleaded as that remains E5
Correct, plus a higher octane. We put the eye wateringly expensive fuel in every other fill then the E10 + additive.

Or I might try this.

How to remove ethanol from your fuel.

It's been a common problem with classic motorbikes ever since E5 was introduced but over a longer period of unused fuel; say a month or so. (Normally the gunge is a pale honey colour, not transparent as in your pic).
Blocked fuel pipes, gummed up carbs and jets, softening of non ethanol-proof seals,...........and 'stale' E5 and E10 petrol develops an absolutely awful smell as well.
Most of us use Super as Landy Andy mentioned and which is said to be ethanol free at many garages.

Many moons ago I had a petrol engine in a yacht. The fuel tank ended up with gummy deposits in the tank where the fuel was sat there for so long. That was back in the days of leaded fuel.

That reminds me of the yacht engines I had back when mother was a lad - both two-strokes, one a Stuart Turner and the other an RCA Dolphin. To go astern you had to stop the engine and change the ignition timing lever then restart the engine running 'backwards'.
It was a nerve-wracking operation as those temperamental old two-strokes were notoriously difficult to restart when hot.
The petrol would evaporate from the petrol and oil mixture leaving the remaining fuel over-rich in oil producing a gummy residue.

My men's shed chaps were commenting on how they loose mpg on E10 fuel?

Does anyone else fund this?

Also is super diesel fuel worth it? Has extra lubricants?

Cheers James

Yes
I don't keep records but a couple of my cost conscious biker chums have mentioned it. Apparently petrol with ethanol has a lower calorific/energy value than neat petrol.

This guy's a bit off the wall but he's tested all the major brands of fuel additives over the last two years and the conclusion he came to was that they're all basically snake oil !

I always use E5 in my bike.
