I see on a lot of Caravan Club sites that car hire is a facility.

Now having just got back from Castleton it got me thinking that I did not see a load of Ford Focus's kicking around ready to rent.

Does an affiliated car hire company drop them off for you and collect? Or is it like enterprise where they pick you up and run you to the office?

Thinking it would be a nice idea so we can nip out places in the day when doing longer trips.

And before anyone says it NO that's not an advert for a caravan! Frikkin hate caravans and if I wanted to tow I could hook up a small car to the Motorhome and still not have to have a s@@ding Caravan

A little Fiesta or the likes for a few days would be good though.

We rented a car from Enterprise in Barnstaple whilst staying in a commercial site near Woollacombe earlier this year, it wasn't Damage Barton but almost next door and Enterprise weren't going to turn down a booking. There's places down there we couldn't manage in the van three years earlier. They picked us up and took us back to the office for the paperwork and did the same when we returned the car. It's been mentioned elsewhere that you can buy car hire excess insurance a lot cheaper from specialist sites avoiding the exhorbitant prices from the rental company. Link won't copy and paste but try Money Supermarket. com they have a good write up on it.

We hired for 3 days ,& from memory it was about £48.
as said before they bring the car to the site you thengo back to there depot sign & pay, then when finished with the car you return it to the depot & they drive you back to the site.(SIMPLES)

Thanks for that. I used Enterprise last month for a 3 day rental and took advantage of the pick up service.

Hopefully places we want to hire from will have that service available.

Probably more dependent on there being an Enterprise depot near enough to make it work although there are plenty of car hire firms around, just the means of getting there and back is the problem.

As mentioned by @Debs I did hire a car for a day when at the Teversal C & CC site. The service was provided via Enterprise and went very smoothly from pickup at the camp site to being returned to the site the following day. Can definately recommend and the basic cost was very competitive but the collision damage waver charge does hike up the cost, but isn't compulsory!!

We have used hire cars through Enterprise for about 3 years - if you are a C Club member you get a discount.
Pick up and drop you off - we have never had any problems with them
We used the annual car hire excess insurance - much cheaper than their own

I used to rent cars on a weekly basis and never took the extra insurance so now I feel like even if I do have a bump I am infront from the savings over the years. I do take it if it's end of the world weather still though as that's just common sense

In May I was due at VanBitz and arranged, on line, a car from Enterprise at Taunton taking the CC 10% discount. Despite an early booking they waited until the day before hire, as I arrived at VanBitz, to ring me up and tell me they didn't have a car available. Great, but I did save 100% !!

I remember your first rant on here on being asked for your membership number at a CC site. You were advised by a variety of Funsters including myself, and first outing at Castleton. We are currently caravanners hoping to convert next year. I find your remarks with regards caravans insulting, arrogant and unnecessary.

Moving on. A couple of weeks ago I looked at the cost of one week's hire of a Corsa. About £106. Very good I thought. This is all proving part of our conversion process from caravan to MH. We have always had the car to hand to jump into and go visiting or shopping. NT and HHA provide MH parking in the main. Places like Crystal Palace are on a bus route etc., We will plan our trips to enable us to move around using local transport, but where we can't Enterprise and others will come into play. We have a near concours MX5 that we may just tow behind us and are taking all possibilities into consideration. Hope this helps. Regards, Mike

This is really useful information. My passion (apart from Mrs.Mack of course) is wildlife photography and I've always felt I'm limited to the immediate environment of a site in the UK as we like to stay put after setting up. I've just checked up on Enterprise and they are dog friendly so we shall be able to spread our wings when away and travel to other locations.

Thats strange, because I find those remarks quite funny! And before the flurry of disrupted feathers hits the fan, I have every right to laugh, having tugged since 1974.
Lighten up, this is *FUN*, where such comments are met with a smile, read with a pinch of salt, and treated as a laugh. :xsmile::xsmile:

To quote Jimmy Carr "Offence can't be given only taken. People get offended about diffferent things".

So my intention was not to offend.

But as I say to my wife if some people don't like me it saves money in Christmas & Birthday cards so I am saving again this month :xsmile:

I also tend to write how I think and speak. I don't have that filter they teach you in engilish lessons on how to write correctly. Hence I am not an English teacher.

So apologies if you took offence.

I still hate caravans though. ;)

So, back to the plot. We arranged a hire car from Enterprise at Poole two years ago. They picked us up from Hunters Moon CC site at Wareham, and because our return date was a Sunday, when they opened late, they picked it up again from the wardens office, even texting us to say everything was 'OK'. Cost for three days, £48. :xThumb:

I had a similar problem in Barnstaple, no vehicles available for hire. They couldn't even find anything available in Taunton or Exeter..............In February !
Don't get me started on failing to return calls , etc. I found them completely uninterested & a waste of time.
Ended up using Thrifty car & van hire on the other side of the town.

I can't find it now but I posted a while back on my rental from Enterprise in Barnstaple and the way they went over the car with a fine tooth comb on my return. The girl from the office spent ages looking down the lines of the car and thought she saw a 40mm sized dent high up on the rear door and even fetched a plastic gauge which she place over the "dent" to check. Neither of us could see anything and after she fetched her manager who couldn't see anything either we were on our way but it left a sour taste.
