First was the Autostratus LS, then a 2004 Autotrail Scout followed by a Nissan Civilian conversion.
Does anybody have any clever ways of storing their tools and what tools do you take with you?

Ha-Ha, I didn't think about that; i'm such a tool. LoL.

Smaller tools are all In a "tool bag" in the garage, socket set and a few bigger bits just on a shelf in the garage.

Ok enough of the frivolity :tounge:

I just transfer my "motoring" toolbox out of the car to it's designated spot under the bed. Has enough in it to cover most things on the road, anything more call the breakdown service. If I try and spread things around I lose them.

Funny thing is, though, I generally only get it out (ooh missus!!!) when helping other folk!

You reminded me, my tool roll has gone walkabout so need a nice one to fit screwdrivers and a couple different size nutfuckers. Then 2 size socket sets and a hammer

What year and chassis is your vehicle
I am between vehicles at the moment, my last MH was an AutoTrail Scout on the Mercedes base and I crammed all of my tools into the box under the seat but it was a nightmare to get anything out that I needed. The trouble is that I have a SnapOn top box with quite allot of tools in it and my long term free storage location is coming to an end so if i'm reducing the size of my toolbox I might as well put it into canvas bags or toolboxes that will fit into most MH's ready for my next vehicle :-) (for clarification I don't have a permanent home in the UK as I live between this country and NZ).

Really only carry tools for problems on the hab side as not much you can do on modern engines at the side of the road.
A small tool set with spanners, screwdrivers, cutters, pliers etc. that sits on the shelf above the gas locker in the garage. A plastic storage box with various tools like Torx drivers, power drill etc., another box with a couple of multimeters, fuses, cable, cable ties gaffa tape etc., and bike spares.
Torque wrench on another shelf in the garage.
Just found a couple of soft projector cases that most of my tools will fit in and will take up less room.

I found a Stanley tool roll in B&Q years ago for a fiver. It takes all my loose spanner’s, a screw driver with various bits and a couple of pairs of pliers.
The electrical odds and ends like crimp connectors, fuses, a couple of lengths of different size wire and fuses are in plastic box with a clip on lid.
Since the alternator came loose on the Duetto I have a small box with a selection of nuts, bolts and washers. Also I keep a 1/4“drive ratchet and a few small sockets in there. From my Landrover days I have a cheap 1/2“ drive socket set.
With the Rienza having large under bed lockers I seem to have a lot of bits stashed away. There is a plastic bag with odd bits I can’t find a home for like a couple of tyre pressure gauges, why two I can’t remember.
Since retiring I have tools in the workshop, tools from work and tools from the Landrover, they needed fixing a lot away from home. I have sold my silly big bus fixing tools but I still need to trim things down a bit more.
I really don’t think I need as much as I carry having breakdown cover but I like to think I might be able to try and do something for myself if it’s safe before I ask for help.

i just roll my tool boxes into the garage

A set of spanners, small socket set, set of Alan keys, hammer, tape, multimeter, some screwdrivers and a few other bits and bobs. All in an ordinary canvas tool bag in an outside locker towards the front of our Hymer.
As above plus gaffer tape, cable ties, nylon cargo straps. 👍

tool bag and under the drivers seat. Removed the stupid plastic tray. That way I keep the weight up front.

I have the following, a set of 3.8ths drive metric sockets and spanners , box spanners a powered screwdriver and assorted bits, Allen keys, cable ties small oil can electrical/duct tape and puncture repair and air jack, all fits in a small 12 x 8 inch ex chemist delivery box and weighs under 3kgs. Does the job as for routine maintenance and cycle maintenance

Since I replied to this post I have been out to the van for something. I have more stuff in there than I thought.
Maybe the extra space is not such a good idea.
Tomorrow I have a day free from management so I am going to have a ruthless dig out and re pack that locker. I found my heavy duty long boost leads in with the boots and shoes locker. I thought I had lost them. The torque wrench is missing. There are four different WD40 spray cans. I think the 10 ton tow strop and shackles might be bit over the top.
One good point with the Duettto was the lack of locker space to stash junk.

Somebody on here started a thread about a nice tool bag but I can't find it now. I bought one and it takes everything out of my 2 previous boxes and fits nicely in the garage.

Velocity pro-gear on amazon, quite pricey but a nice bit of kit.

Breakdown recovery number on my phone🙂

But seriously, skateboard multi tool in the glovebox along with the tools needed to secure the motorbike stand in the van and a multimeter in the cupboard with electrical stuff. Under the passenger sear is the standard tool box with jack, wheelbrace, etc.

One of my tool bags came from Machine Mart, maybe Irwin I think. It lasted for years until it got drowned in one of Landrovers and started to rot.
Bags are a better choice because they dampen the rattle of loose tools and can pushed into corners.

Where Sally can’t find them. They are never the same after she has fiddled with them.😩
I have the same trouble with hubby ... whenever he goes rootling around for anything, be it pans, cutlery etc it's a mess afterwards ... no way will I let him anywhere NEAR my tool box!

Joking aside, I have a nice plastic tool box with a lift up top section which takes little bits and bobs and the main body of it takes most of the other stuff (spanners, screwdrivers, multimeter, wire, pliers, etc with the few tools which are too large in a soft bag. The tool box has to be packed in a certain way otherwise it won't all fit in so I really ought to go through it though as I know I have spare switches etc in it that I had for the Globecar which I certainly won't need in the Carthago but you can bet as soon as I remove something I'll need the ruddy thing!

I keep the tools near the front is the nearside locker so that I can get at them easily and means the weight is up front where we have a lot of spare capacity ... it also means I don't have to try to find them in the garage under all the other stuff that hubby will have piled on up on top after he's been rummaging!

I don’t carry many tools, as I’m not very handy with them. A basic Ikea set with an adjustable spanner, hammer, screwdriver, pliers and an Allen key covers it (although I do bring my electric screwdriver, because that makes things so much easier). What I mainly carry are ‘bits’. Duct tape, double sided tape, glue, cable ties, silicone spray, wd40, lighters, rope tie, cable tie, mouldable glue, various hooks and straps, eleventy billion chargers, powerbanks, torches, batteries, bulbs and fuses. Probably lots of other carp I shouldn’t, but always seem to need!

I store it all in here (except the tool box, which has its own little slot under the fuse box)
