Fiat Ducato 2013 vintage - so the dashboard clipboard doesn’t stand up because of the electrics for the passenger airbag (not my excuse, but wot I wos told). The clipboard surface is not smooth, so the suction cup on the SatNav won’t hold. I use the clip thingy to hold the foot but it always works loose - and it means the screen is half a mile away. How do other Funsters fix their SatNav?

With one of these

It works for me, the curve is not big a few cm back from the edge,
Make sure you buy a decent quality one as some are very thin and can crack when pressed down.
The ones I posted above are an example not the ones I had.
Just search a bit more👍

I use one of these

cheaper option

Although I’m starting to find myself using Waze on my phone more and more, even in the van

I use CoPilot via an IPad. I sourced an insulated sandwich/lunch box bag with the same dimensions, cut a hole for the power cable and clipped the folded back lid into the dashboard clipboard. This has the advantage of shielding from glare as well as the heat of the sun. Further mods were to stick the suction part of an old dashcam mount on the windscreen directly behind it to increase the elevation.

Since I removed the totally unnecessary Rear View Mirror, I now stick our Sat Nav up there on a suction mount, lovely job, its right in the middle and does not obscure forward vision.
The suction cup did stick to the raise up I pad holder also, but I prefer it higher up out the way.

I screwed mine into the clipboard, on the basis that it gave me the best and most secure fixing, and if needed I can replace the clipboard for £50 in the future if I want to. I've removed it before and it's relatively easy to remove and replace, and the part is readily available.

I use a "Brodit Mount" it fixes to the air vent very firmly and it means the device is very easy reach without a stretch as its next to the indictor stalk.

They do as mount for most makes. not cheap but certainly the best solution.

I stuck a small square of gloss acrylic to the top of the dash with VHB tape.
Suction mount sticks to that.

I used to put one side of a slim CD case in the document clip and the sat nav sucks onto this. i've a few million of these left in my spare room, many are unused should people want to buy one.

Nowadays I use a bean bag type. It doesn't help when the overcab bed you're asleep in drops three inches during the night with a bang. Next morning you get up to find the bed resting on the hook for the sat nav and the Garmin itself has shot out and lies somewhere in no-man's land.

Bought a one of the type that clamps in theairflow grill. useless, wouldn't stay on, wouldn't stay still. Now an amazon return (one of my many).

We used to have a heavy bean-bag thing which worked quite well but, as it only balanced on the front of the Boxer dash, it required frequent drags forward so it was back in position. Then I tried a Reme mat. Very cheap and has a smooth, shiny disc incorporated in it to which the Garmin satnav sticks securely. The mat is silicone so sticks easily to the dash surface. The mat then sits on the front of the dash, where the bean-bag thing used to sit but the back of the Reme pad then fits under the bulldog clip of the dash. This holds it securely and it hasn’t moved in the three months we’ve been using it this summer.
And because it now sits low on the dash, it isn’t an obstruction, doesn’t block a vent and is in

eyeline without looking too far downwards. Works very well for us.

I removed the map clip thingy as I never used it, it revealed a useable space, so fitted a solid Satnav mount.

If you have an old CD or DVD case then stick the TT mount to the Case with its sucker then use the Clipboard Clamp to hold the CD/DVD Case.

Thanks Ingwe that looks like the one for me. Just found it before reading your post - pleased to have your description of it working the way it sounds like it should

I’m told my clipboard thingy doesn’t lift up to a useful position because of the controls for the passenger airbag - therefore I’m reluctant to fiddle with it or screw into it.
