how do I get 'all programs in a list in windows 8 or 10? (1 Viewer)

I ve got a brilliant newish lenovo touchscreen laptop but I'm really struggling with the operating system, everything seems to be basically an app and I really cant get on with it - I can't find anything.

On my old laptop with XP I could just go to the bottom left and click on all programs, looking at the help program suggests that the 'desktop' button will do the same job but I can't get it to work and I can't seem to move it to the home screen. Any ideas? Or if I forego the touchscreen element - is it possible to stick XP or 7 on it?

when i click the 4 square windows symbol bottom left i get a list in alphabetical order of all the installed programs one thing i do like is the search bar in the same area its very good at finding what you ask for

That's what my PC does too.

On my Win 10 machine, click on the "start" button (the 4 windows icon lower left). Then at the top left there are a couple more icons, one of which is "All Apps". You get a full list there.

When you click the "Window" icon do you get something like this -

If so, click the "bars" next to Start and you should get -

You need to go into the classic shell settings, you can choose to make the start menu look like Windows 7. Ignore the options for internet explorer.

Don't know where on the screen you get but you need to get into Start - Settings - Personalisation - Start and muck about with the "On \ Off" options in there.

In Windows 8.1, right click the windows icon bottom left and this brings up a list of various actions, top of the list is Programs and features but opening this only gives you the option to uninstall etc and not to open as was the case with the list in XP.

Another way is to open settings, change PC settings, control panel.

Those are the only ways that I have found on 8.1
