Pole and a nice warm bucket of wax any day, with a hosepipe and lots of nice fresh water. Good soaking to remove the grit and dust and then elbow grease. Good form of a workout too.

Defo don’t ever use detergent, all vehicles have some form of drainage system and all a detergent will do is wash away any wax residue, polish or protection that a manufacturer has applied.

Power washers are a huge no no on any of my vehicles. Fine for a patio, but unless you use an attachment and some form of foam, they shouldn’t go near a vehicle. Personally I wouldn’t use them either.

Pressure wash a wheel and the force of the water can easily overcome a seal and introduce water, grit and contamination into a space were it doesn’t belong. Same on the engine, doors, bonnets etc.

Warm waxy water that then runs down these drain offs and seeps it’s way between doors, bonnets etc, is much better than the water under pressure.

Each to their own, but I do wonder if these dealers that are blasting these motorhomes not ask why they’re sometimes returned with levels of damp???

I used my pressure washer after a trip to Dorset in February and the MH was covered in salt which just had to come off due to the corrosion it can cause. I now wished I hadn't as it penetrated one of the Hella front fog lights with water. Now I get that this was maybe not the best idea however, in my mind I had thought that a Hella front fog light, mounted as it is at the front and low down (so likely to be hit with water travelling at speed) it would be OK. Morelo have been great and have sent a replacement lamp unit that I will fit myself but you would think that it was made to be cleaned this way wouldn't you?

I like the idea of using a sponge to clean our MH and have a lovely lambswool mitt to do the job but, as this vehicle is 3.4m high, that means working off a ladder and thats against EU rules!:whistle:

Ah, I almost forgot.

I have fitted a nano filter to my hosepipe for the final rinse, there's no need to dry it as the water just runs off (even the windows) leaving a spotless finish. I would highly recommend this but it's only good for 30 washes (of a car before the filter is clogged) so will need replacing more frequently when used on a MH.

Our motorhome is now filthy after more than 3 weeks travelling Germany... were going to need to find a washing bay with a gantry somewhere.

I'd be interested in the nano filter @OurMorelloLife - can you give details please

Hi there,

The filter I use is this one (although there are two variants - the other one filters to Oppm but that would block up way to fast in our hard water area (Berkshire) so I went for the 30ppm one. It comes with the hose attachments and a small section of hose (10cm) to connect to your hosepipe too - £64 each. It is a substantial bit of kit too.

I went online and bought two galvanised 100mm gutter downpipe brackets which are a snug fit around the filter to fix it to my wall; the hose connects straight into it (there's an arrow showing the flow direction). I have a separate length of hose to attach to the output side of the filter with a spray nozzle on it to do the final rinse of the bus. Bingo!

It does work and leaves the MH clean and free of watermarks without using a dry towel or chamois. Trust this is of assistance?

Thanks for the information. We too live in a hard water area and always have to use a fibre cloth or similar to get the streaks off. When we get back I'm going to invest in the aqua gleam system.

I often see window cleaners in our area who specialise in using filtered water - now I know why! :) thanks again for the info.

Unfortunately, as you might have expected, it's a sealed unit so no filter to replace; you have to replace the whole thing which is a shame.

In our area most of the window cleaners use the filtered water and there is a local supplier from whom you can purchase what you need. We have a household water softener but even that leaves some deposits so after washing and rinsing our van I tried a garden spray filled with bought filtered water as a second rinse. It worked well, but I did need to ensure no areas dried before the second rinse.

All it is is an inline filter and some hose adaptors. Check online for a matching filter

We also use a small karcher at a distance..
On returning froma trip we also try and wash the van down before we park it up to get the worst dirt off it... (We have a nearby 24hr commercial jetwash ... I know it's powerfull but we're careful)
We have now found a local dealer (pop top vans) who will wash the van which saves me climbing all over the roof.

A pressure washer is fine if you don't go too close. I rinse with one, then foam, then use brush, then rinse off with pressure washer. I put the fridge covers on when washing (the van!).
