Hi our house insurance is due for renewal, we were with caravan and motorhome club which last year was £178, i used thcovers up to 90 days away, their price this year is £480, haven’t claimed or anything.

So my question is what other insurance companies cover up to 90 days that are reasonably priced, the best so far is axa for £176 for 60 days away.

Hope we can get away over winter.
thanks

If they could guarantee that you COULD go away from home under the current problems for 90 days, under pain of having a free Insurance next year, I'd pay ANYTHING!!!

We're with Sun LIfe who do 90 days away from home at any one time.

Double check policies, we took out a policy with John Lewis offering 60 days unoccupied which was enough for us, when reading the small print it was 60 days in total per year, not as we thought, several trips not exceeding 60 days each.

My John Lewis Specialist Policy says 60 consecutive days not cumulative days. It surprises me that their standard policy is different. Perhaps you could quote the bit you are referring to because this wording could be of significance to many of us.

Our policy also says 60 consecutive days but included with it were 'important notes'
you must tell us if your home is to be left without occupants for more than a total of 60 days in any insurance period
It's the word total that makes the difference, I believe the period of insurance is a year from 2/05/19 to 01/05/20 although if any insurance experts online know otherwise, it would be nice to hear from them.

Can't help with the days away thing, but if you insure your house with nfu you can get holiday insurance thrown in for about £40 for two.

That's OK.
They give you 60 consec. days but ask that you tell them.
Tell them. What can they do. You have complied with their terms.
As per other Insurance threads re the change in circs. re Insuring our vans, they can't impose an additional fee.
And one final thing. Their comment , "Is to be left without occupants, etc" would seem to suggest that you look in your crystal ball and tell them before the 60 days is reached. In our lifestyle that would be doing the impossible.

That is rather mean of them, I have searched my policy for similar wording but not found anything. Perhaps they use different underwriters, ours is with Covea.

I have now checked the policy wording online for their Premier and their Specialist Policies and they are different. The Premier Policy now says 60 days total but the Specialist Policy says 60 days consecutive.
https://www.johnlewisfinance.com/insurance/home-insurance/contact-us.html#question-3 tap on the Policy documents section, they are both there.

What can they do ? How about this ? " your policy may be invalid and we may reject any claim"
Hence my original advice read the policy and and documents very carefully. I would not want to give them any excuse to not pay up.

They cannot invalidate your Policy if you comply with the terms. And, if they do and you are certain that you have complied with the Terms, then you have the Ombudsman to go to.
Insurance Co's stand and fall on the minutiae within their T&C's.
If all they are saying is tell them if you go over the 60 days, then tell them.

We use LV and their standard policy is for 60 days but they wouldn't increase that the one time we wanted to (which was a few years ago). Don't know if that's changed.

I've found over the years that many of the non-MH specific companies won't up the time from their standard (31 or 60 days) so don't ever assume you can do it if you need to in the future, much better to get a policy, even for the lower number of days, where they WILL increase if you pay an extra premium.

Generally we're OK with 60 days. It was just the year Joe retired we wanted to do 3 or 4 months. However it didn't matter in the end because we were home within the 60 days as the MH broke down and we ended up flying home for 7 weeks while it was repaired!

Co-op standard 60 days but, told by 2 separate people in sales that if someone, relative or other stopped over night before the 60 day was up, the 60 days reboots.
