I have one of these and the plug got really hot and is now mis-shapen , it does work but is it safe?
The fuse didn't blow but the tip got really too hot to handle.
Should I buy a new one?

What were you using in it?
I was using it to power a 12 volt TV from a socket in the hab part in the van. I now use it just to power sat nav and charge the road camera in the cab of the vehicle when driving.

It was a bad connection that made it get hot, with the TV taking 2 or 3 amps. Perhaps the tip has a weak spring in it or dirty/corroded also the side springs have to hold it in tight.

Bin it, and the socket it fits in.
Cig sockets are great for cig lighters as they lock in until hot.
That type don't lock and can work loose causing a bad connection and heat.
Replace the socket with a DIN type which have a secure snap lock and can't work loose.
I had a double socket in my RV and melted both plugs AND the plastic socket mount.

Heat at that level is caused by a poor connection in the plug. A better plug will solve the problem. One like this will be fine:

It's universal, as it's shown it fits a std 12v socket, remove the red pieces and it fits the din/hella socket
