Im a newbie
Hi all, I am getting married next May 2021. and we have decided to have our honeymoon in Scotland, hopefully travelling and exploring in a hire MH.
As part of organising the 2 weeks away I will be needing to hire a motorhome in scotland probably travelling the west coast of scotland. So was thinking maybe form the Inverness area but thats not set in stone.. I would like to hear any recommendations from you guys if you know of any decent hire companies in Scotland that maybe be suitable..
We will be travelling from Oxford up to Scotland in my car then hiring MH from there..
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.. Hope this in the right forum catagory if not please move..

I can't help with a hire company, but may I suggest that you look for a MH with air suspension as it doesn't rock quite as much...

:ello: When I've been travelling around Scotland I have seen lots of hire vehicles. So there must be one or two hire companies but I've never used any myself so can't comment on that. Hope you have a lovely honeymoon though. Hope you're going before the midges start up.

That's how we started motorhoming - hired a van to see if we liked the life and it just coincided with our wedding plans.

But, sorry, can't help with a hire company.

Enjoy your trip. We did similar.

1977. Sherpa works van with a mattress in the back. Toilet was a pop bottle 😲 car park in Blackpool for a night. 😂
Still, will be 43 years next week so something must have been right.

Can't help on the rental thing.

I have seen Just Go motorhomes travelling around NZ and they appear to be modern and smart. According to their website they have several depots in Scotland, including Inverness and Fort William.

Search out Motorhome Owners hire options, we did years ago and the vehicle we hired was well loved as it was somebody’s pride and joy. Insurance etc also sorted. Well it was then.
Here is one but don’t know them from Adam and there are loads more.

Atlas motorhome hire in Glasgow.
Let us know what your interested in, plenty on here can give you tips on where to go and what to see.
Congratulations by the way

Thankyou to all, yes its quite exciting. This will be no 2 for me, but i am no 1 for Rachael.
My last honeymoon was in the Maldives.. All perfect and all that, but that's not really me.. I am a outdoor kind of guy , liking the scenery and outdoor life and of course I love the UK. Camping and Caravan holidays for me has been a interest for many years. But never hired a MH or come to that been able to afford one..
So we have never explored Scotland so that was our decision..
As for midges, we are heading up approx 12th may so hopefully will miss the main midgy season. I believed it was end of may for a couple of months. I am sure some can put me right if i am wrong but that's the plan.

You might be better flying into Glasgow / prestwick and picking up your van from there. Lots of hirers can arrange to drop a van at the airport for you and you can leave it there on the way home. I work near Glasgow airport and it is common to see hire vans coming and going. Unless you really want to drive from Oxford.
Ive hired from Rockin vans who offered this service.

have a look at mc rent they have a rental site in scotland i cant recommend as i have never hired a van

It sure the new wife will enjoy being called number 2! Maybe the current Mrs .... might be more appropriate!

In no way looking to put you off as we do Northern Scotland regularly.
Some things to consider in your thought process.
Be aware some motorhomes require you to have a C1 driving licence. Those that don't will, probably, have constraints on their payload (the amount of stuff you can carry).
Given you haven't driven a motorhome before and given the road infrastructure \ conditions in Northern Scotland would it be better for you to consider a smaller campervan rather than a "full-blown" motorhome?
A lot of folk hire motorhomes to tour in this area (including non-UK) so make sure you're clear on the "etiquette of the road" on single track roads.
Are you looking to wild camp or stay on camp sites overnight? If the latter, and don't take this the wrong way - not trying to put you off, but driving a large vehicle for the first time on the roads up North could be "intimidating" and you (the driver) may not get to see much of the scenery. Would car \ B&B type accommodation be better?
Damage deposits can be considerable so make sure you think about insurance cover for this (if available).

Now I've totally depressed you go ahead and enjoy yourselves. You'll have a great time up there with fabulous scenery and peace and quiet.(y)(y)
ps You'll be catching the front-end of midge season so hope for bright sunshine and breezy weather!

Hi, I hope everything works out well for you, both on your honeymoon and in the future. 😁.
There is a motorhome./ campervan hire firm just outside Inverness on the Nairn/Aberdeen road, at Dalcross called Highland Campers. Phone number:01667493976.
I believe since I was last there they have opened an Aire/campsite..

and they're not far from Inverness airport.

If you are going to drive up, then Oxford to Edinburgh/Glasgow is as far as you want to drive in a day (and drive a day back).

Therefore I'd be looking to hire the van either in Northern England or lowland Scotland.

Ensure your first night and your last night are in a (pre-booked) campsite no more than 10-20 miles from where you pick up and drop off the van.

Don't underestimate the hand over time which is normally a couple of hours or so.

Van hire companies expect you to return the van cleaner (on the inside) than when you picked it up, otherwise you pay a penalty fee. So factor in the time to do this. (Hence camping in a place with full facilities on last night close to the drop off)

FYI - Make sure you read the small print of what YOU need to supply.
As a minimum it will be bedding and towels, normally you will also need to bring pots, pans, cutlery and deck chairs as well.
(Many will hire out this sort of equipment, at a cost, which means any advantage of flying up may be negated by the additional hire costs)

There was a rather handsome guy on The Chase tonight who organises weddings in a motorhome... I'm guessing it may include honeymoons but sorry if it rubbish info... I wasn't really watching.

Get married, do the reception and the honeymoon and you don't even need to move !

(The steeple is removable to get under low bridges)

You have to admire some entrepeneurs, don't you. :)
