Hi all,

I am looking for a 125cc scooter, mostly to run errands around town (around 3 miles from home, mostly flat). I may have my wife as a pillion at times. Speed is not a concern, but we have a total weight of 180kg.
I could occasionally risk it on a longer trip on my own.

I was thinking between an Honda vision 110 (there’s a 2nd hand for just under £2000), or fork a bit more on an sh mode 125. Will the first be enough for a basic usage, or should I play on the safe side and get the latter?

I also had my mind on a pcx125, but I don’t think I need the extra performance.

What do you recommend?

Vespa GTS. I've had a number of bikes and scooters over the years (still do) including 10 autos. Out of all of them, my wife says the GTS is the comfiest. 145kgs, Plus with under seat storage and decent top box, you can get a decent supermarket visit in it. You might be able to afford one of the later models with ABS and traction control.

My thinking is you had better make your mind up fast as fuel prices rise so will scooter Prices.

You will find quite a few of us have the Suzuki Address 110 cc. Lightest for potential motorhome, goes 60 mph 2 up on flat (140 kgs) Has been stopped doing 70 mph downhill and farting in France

I have an SH125 and also an SH100, which is very similar to the Vision 110 (air-cooled, step-through, 16" wheels). My view is that a Vision 110 is an adequate scooter, and the SH125 is more like a small bike.

I hate to say it, but I think the Vision 110 will be quite OK for your usage - running around the town, occasionally with a pillion passenger. It's fine on 30mph and 40 mph roads, but struggles to keep up with trucks on a faster road, especially with a pillion passenger.

With the SH125 any road is effortless, and it somehow just feels a lot more secure and dependable, but that's only a feeling really, nothing wrong with a Vision 110. I wouldn't hesitate to take the SH125 on fast dual carriageways or motorways, but I'd think twice with the Vision 110.

The SH125 is quite a bit heavier than the Vision 110, it's water-cooled for a start. Autoroutress can handle the SH100, but has a problem putting the SH125 on its centre stand, so that may be important for you.

We have a Vision 110 which fits in our garage a treat and performs very well with us both on it (138kg). I also have an SH300 which is a pocket rocket, but I don’t take it away with us.

Hi all,

Thank you all for your advice. I am almost sure for the sh mode 125. The vision is a great bike, but I am afraid it will be underpowered if I need to go a bit further with my missus. I have contacted the dealer, and they confirmed that the prices will go up from April, so need to hurry up. A part of me is still thinking on the additional power (and features) of the pcx 125, but it's a heavier and bulkier bike, and I could use the extra money to pay for the accessories and insurance.

We've got the vision 110. It's OK but I'd buy the SH125 if I was buying again. The vision struggles when, say at a busy roundabout and you need it to GO when you see a gap in the traffic. Also pulling off up hill it drags it's arse terribly 2 up.

There’s your answer the pcx. 125 . And buy a few extras.

We had a Sym HD200 , Honda SH copy and that was great, even used it to commute to work sometimes and that was mainly dual carriageway and 15 miles, handled it no trouble.
Went well two up also, we carried it on a trailer.

Another vote for SYM. I’ve had three and still have one. Never missed a beat. Not so well known in the U.K. but huge in Spain and Asia. Favourite of the hire firms due to price and reliability. SYM jet 4 125 cc. Highly recommended. Weight approx 110kg.

Interesting pillion commentary from your wife. We have had a Vespa 300 GTS for years now, whilst Cindy loves riding it, she’s not a great fan of being pillion. But then Madam has been spoilt over the years by large touring/adventure bikes. ;)

Apparently it’s something to do with leg/foot position, trying to keep on those pillion peg arm things (I think there are extenders available as an aftermarket part). I would guess it’s something to do with her stumpy legs trying to get around the side panels to said pillion pegs. Don’t recall that issue on the old P series Vespas of my teenage years. 🙂

Got a Honda Vision 110. Weighs about 100kg so good for putting in rear garage as the garage payload is relatively small. Can load in /out by myself.
Two up it’s great for short trips to nearest town and getting about. We tend to try and limit journey times to about half an hour at a time. We tend to avoid main roads and stick to smaller ones. It’s great doing 40mph and will do 50mph easily on levelish roads but is slower on hills etc. On main roads we feel a bit more vulnerable as it is smaller and less able to keep up with faster traffic.

If I had more garage payload I would have gone for a 125 but I still think the Vision is ok if you are aware of what type of journeys you want to do.

Not wanting to hijack the thread with Vespas because the SH125 is a decent large wheeled scooter. But yes we fitted the extenders before using it and took them off. Must be the leg thing::bigsmile:

Ah, the old PX had one at the start of the Mod revival✊

trust me on this. I know little about many things but a lot about scooters for motorhomes that start with the letter H...

The PCX 125 is pound for pound, the best allround scooter you can buy.

I am on my 3rd having sold the others to get something bigger, faster, smaller, lighter etc etc and every time I come back to the PCX. My current one has a bigger screen and heated grips.

They are light enough to go in a MH but not too light they fly away when riding
They pull two people at 60MPH and pull up hills without too much hassle but don't pull you too fast you kill yourself.
They handle like a sports bike and I've had a few of them
They are that well balanced through traffic they stand up right.
ABS
They are that reliable I reckon if I hid mine in a canal I could fish it out and it would start first time
MPG is incredible not sure but I think about 120 mpg

You can throw it in the van and use it in the MH
you can do as I do and jump on it to commute 100 mile round trip to work for fun in the sun, it's that comfortable.
You can get a part time job delivering for Delivero to earn extra monies for the new motorhome you will buy one day.

Here's a sumary of some of the other scooters I've had.

sh125- not comfortable not balanced anything like the PCX
Vision 100 - that underpowered two up I thought it was dangerous.
various SYM 125's - felt like I was a chav on the run from the police.
Vespa 300 - my favourite by a long way, if you want to pose on it awesome bit of kit but my wife described it as the worst pillion experience ever,
Aprillia Sports cube- made me feel like a racing driver, but again, step through and would top 85mph but scary as shit as didn't think it was well enough balance.

pretty sure I've had more too.

The problem with the PCX is there's no flat step through for your crate of beer 🍻😁

Yamaha N max? Best of the bunch but then again its all down to personal experiences There is not a lot between any of them,(125cc) to be quite honest, all are the same HP, all are roughly the same size and all are supposedly Japanese made but Brazil, India, South Korea Taiwan and Malaysia seem to be the main suppliers. Go for whatever you feel comfortable on , its your choice its you that will be riding it!

I had a pcx before I passed test great bike would have another one tomorrow

SYM. I love em, as for chav, no, but outrunning the old bill, yes every time. 😀
I have an HD200i right now, brilliant scooter and weighs 120 kgs. Bought it for the Motorhome but use it daily round town. Pays for itself in parking costs alone.

Yes love the parking aspect too, we were in York for a few days last year and the congestion (for the cars) was fantastic, gives me a lovely warm feeling riding past all the queues into town. Then we pull into our personal parking space right outside Wetherspoons 👌😍

Thank you for your insight. Can you tell me about the maintenance of the pcx? It seems it has more electronics and features than the sh mode, I wonder if maintenance will be more £££

what maintenance?

I literally changed the oil in mine once or twice, that was it. Oh had a new set of tyres too. This machine is just designed to keep going.

we have a Yamaha D'elight 110cc its easy to ride and with 2 no probs , does 58mph max, easy 2 up and 40-45mph all day and its done all the steep hills in cornwall and scotland 2 up without missing a beat, sips fuel and takes a tenner ever few hundred miles. Best thing its 98kg - i looked for the lightest poss scooter for 2 people and this is it! its easy to pull in and out of our carthago garage . its very simple twist and go and never let us down. Ive seen plenty people struggle with heavier bikes which up and down a small short ramp is a nightmare. I weighed up all the plus and minuses and bought this - bought 3 yrs ago 2015 and was £1300 with 2500miles- can't fault it and can't wait for spring summer 2022 😬

I had the GTS300 hpe but at the end of the day far to heavy for the Moho so sold it, just about to get a PCX125, as looking at and trying others I found this was the best value all round on a £ for £ basis. Heated grips (not that I need them here ) LED lighting, comfort and economy for me was worth that bit extra and has some decent looks as well to top it off
