I'm having difficulty finding home insurance that permits unoccupancy for more than 60 days, what are your experiences please and any recommendations for companies that permit longer periods away.
Thanks.

With Lloyds if you tell them and turn off water etc you can extend.just a thought if you had somebody regularly checking your house would that help?

C&CC allow 180 days as does their Travel Insurance

John

Yes C&CC seem to allow 180 days as standard.

Co-op as standard is 60 days but seem to allow the clock to be reset if a friend/relative stays overnight while you’re away (although there has been a suggestion that the scope of cover may reduce).

Just had a quote from Homeprotect, 180 days which renews every time you go home, they do longer but 180 in one go is enough for us

Caravan and motorhome club do a standard 90 day away from home with no need for visits, turning water off etc.

However make sure you check the cover and you don't have to accept the first quote if the cover isn't good enough.

C&CC insurance in state of flux, new computer systems can't access previous policies (in my case anyway) my renewal has gone from £393 to £800+ for more or less the same cover. Also the insurance is now with Ageas - which comes bottom of Which? ranked table of insurers ....

I am of the opinion that both organisations are in a bit of a time warp - as are Saga.

Homeprotect do 90+ days, but after 30 days cover is limited:

"If the Home is left unattended for 30 consecutive days [or greater] your Home will be considered "unoccupied", during this period, no cover is provided for:
- Claims caused by escape of water, during the period: 1 October - 1 April [inclusive].
- Claims caused by theft or attempted theft, unless all security features listed within your statement of fact are maintained in good working order and in full operation.
- Money & Cards. - High Risk Items.

I'm now awaiting clarification on whether 'High Risk items' I specified for cover outside the home are in fact covered after 30 days. That wording is not explicit enough for me (macbooks, photographic stuff, jewelry etc)

They are.

I now have a quote from C&CC circa £230, but one of the conditions is that between Oct-April 15ºC must be maintained "at all times" - and the loft hatch left open. We don't maintain 15º "at all times" even when in residence ! (The whippets wear pyjamas ....)

I'm with C&CC. However, it's been rumoured on another forum that premiums are rising by 30% next year. They've taken on a company called "Fresh" as one of their preferred insurers, which MAY be one of the reasons for the increase.

My renewal is due end of January 2020....it will be interesting to see what happens.
