Heading over Northumberland way next week. Anyone taken their motorhome over to the Holy Isle. I have read there is parking but limited to 3500kg. Ours has revenue weight over that but was originally 3500kg. Do they have ANPR cameras? Are we likely to get asked to leave? Is the carpark suitable for motorhomes?

We have just been there today on our road trip The Northumberland 250
There is a big car park on the island where we parked for 5 hrs for £7. Then a 10 min walk to the priory. We had a great day out. We are staying at The Barn at Beal. Only a few mins drive to the causeway.
The Northumberland 250 is a great road trip. Any other questions give me a shout
John

I did not see any ANPR cameras and no parking wardens. We even lost our parking ticket down the dashboard 😂😂
So had to leave a note saying we had paid!! 🤣🤣

We’ve just spent 4 days in lovely Northumberland. We weren’t that impressed with Holy Island - the imagination (mystical, spiritual island) didn’t live up to the actual, but a nice walk around the island nonetheless.

We tow a car, so based ourselves at Alnwick Rugby Club, which is a brilliant base. Near supermarkets, and a short walk into the town which is lovely.

We drove to Holy Island, Seahouses, Howick and the gorgeous Boulmer Bay - all of which were Motorhome parking friendly. We didn’t stay overnight, but I think Ditcha and Ukbandit could give you overnight stopover info if you wanted it.

We loved the area - as rugged and beautiful as North Cornwall, but empty!

Enjoy your stay - we did! (y)

No problem parking a motorhome of almost any size - but strictly NOT overnight, even if you are silly enough to "miss the tide" and cannot get across the causeway.

And please do check the tide tables posted at each end of the causeway and DO NOT attempt to cross outside the "safe" times. The tide comes up very rapidly and quickly swamps anything - as is regularly witnessed!

It is not only the danger of the water rising vertically but there are also strong currents sweeping across the causeway road, so that if one's wheels were only in inches of water but traction were lost, the vehicle can be swept sideways into deeper water.

But do go I think it is a magical place, especially if one knows about Christianity reaching the British Isles and the influence of St. Cuthbert and St. Bede. It was and still is in many ways a different country from the S. of England, and even from Tyneside/Wearside, although for many they are grouped as North-East.
