Went to our site we had booked for a few days in Yorkshire..... Drove from Durham through some horrendous down pours and thought this is going to be a great trip for our first holibobs in the shed... :frowny:

Had thoughts of the three of us sitting in the shed looking out at the torrential rain for 4 days...... How wrong was I...

Within 20 miles of the site brilliant sunshine and hot with it....

Gets to the site and it was stonking hot with every one trying to find shade..... anyway gets set up and dog starts to over heat..

3 days of this proving forecasters were wrong... But was to hot for Daisy as she was over heating some thing bad... for 3 days our temp thingy was showing 24 - 29 deg... and no wind and hardly any air so as to speak it was taking it`s toll on me... and still 17 - 18 deg in the van at night...

So with the dogs interest at heart we decided to come home today.. much cooler in Durham and she has just drunk water and slept but is perking up... (y)
So that is that going to cut the grass here and go up to Northumberland for a couple of weeks... (Leaving all the viewings which by all accounts there are loads, according to the Estate Agent. for them to do.. let them earn their commission...:giggler:)

..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Anyway, as promised a review of the site.. Street Head Caravan Park..

Quite a nice site but no good for me... Go out the gate and turn left very steep hill... Out the gate and 50 ft a nice pub.. and another steep hill... Did try taking the dog for a walk down one of the hills but nearly did for me coming back..

For walkers and them with some sort of transport it has some beautiful views all round...and lovely little villages and old ruins and castle type buildings.. But if hill`s are a problem for you it`s a no no...

The site is approx 4 - 5 miles from Aysgarth falls ... but there was no way we could have got there.. so never did see them.. :crying1:

Reasonable size pitch but they do limit size... We were pitched right alongside the road.... (Now I love the sound of motor bikes, especially Harley`s and Ducati`s....) but the constant roar of them and trucks and tractors was a bit much, but did go quiet at night...

Only one shower unit open because of Covid and information room closed...

£21-50 a night which I suppose is about right for the area. with 10 amp EHU`s... Elsan point is an uphill struggle by the reception which is closed... plenty of fresh water points.. (Would sooner of been on a nice little CL.)

Pub right next door was a welcome break as to be able to go some where for a meal or three and sit out side and have a drink under the umbrellas across the road in the evening... busy little pub/hotel...

Like a lot of commercial sites.... Lot`s of permanent (Unused) tourer caravans with awnings up that looked as if they had been there for years.. (I personally don`t like to see busy sites with caravans taking up valuable site space and not looking like they get used much.:frowny:.. But that is just my opinion.)

Field for campers and one for home type statics and one for tourers..

Would I stay there again...???? No.... sorry... If I were a mountain goat maybe.. :giggler:

Marks out of 10 = 6/10...

All above is just my own opinions... And to give an insight to anyone thinking of staying there..

Few photo`s...

Right decision old-mo Our Teddy is suffering too and we're at home. He seems totally disorientated so we are concerned as we travel to Sussex tomorrow to meet up with Sarah's lively dog and two kittens day one, day two Anthony's dog and day three middle son with one cat. I'm already looking forward to coming home on Sunday

Mo I am certain you know this essential advice already. If your dog is getting too hot and is clearly suffering, throw a towel over her back and soak it in water regularly. Dogs don't sweat like we do and can only regulate their heat by panting and drawing air over their wet mouth. A bit like air conditioning but with a big dog it takes way more work to cool down. This is why wolves lay around in the shade during the hottest part of the day

The only part of a dog that does sweat is their paws

It can be frightening how quickly a dog can get heat stroke, especially darker furred dogs. They can die in a matter of 2 hours if they don't get treatment

I have a cool coat for Kerry... made from that chamois like material... soaks up a ton of water then evaporates over a few hours cooling her down.

She's not keen on it being put on - but it works a treat... she stops panting in a few minutes.

Got to keep an eye on it though, dries out stiff as a board.

If you have cut your holiday short old-mo does that mean an early return to your (sort of) jokes!!!!! please :pray2::pray::pray2::pray:don't say it does.

:roflmto::roflmto::roflmto::roflmto::roflmto:

You could always put an air con unit on the roof or one of those air con units that hang out of your back window with a tube inside ?
It's only going to get hotter every year { apparently }

Mo, this time of year you need to think about rallies. won’t help with Daisy overheating but they’re good value for money. Was at York a few wks ago, flat site on the rugby club, about 2 miles from York. Bikeable, £10 a night, no leccy though. Most, but not all, social distancing on site, but pitches were large. Great walking along river just through gate. Off to Harrogate Tom, poss leccy first come first served basis so not really expecting it, £11 a night, leccy will increase price.

how did the new van perform? As expected?

We use a cool mat for our little dog, works a treat, she loves it, also soak a microfiber cloth in cold water and lay that over her, she must like it because she doesnt shake it off. (y)

Hi Caggsie1 ............ Might do that... re rallies...

But just wanted to try the van out first time I have only ever had a new or couple of year old one...

For 18 years old it was OK... not the fastest... 55 - 60 mph it was happy any more than that and it felt like I was thrashing the gut`s out of it..

Had to use the gears a lot more than I am used to on hills.... but fuel usage is brilliant.. there again it`s only 1905 cc engine..

It will do for the occasional get away.. (y)

Gave you a like......... but far to hot for me.... just drains you...:frowny:
Tell me about it. Trying to cool the van is hard work. Poor dog doesn’t know what to do. This is the uk as well. Ok it’s the Isle of Wight, but I can’t remember temperatures like this in this country.
