You cant go to it in your motorhome, you can drive part of the way to the bus station then travel something like 5 kilometres by bus, believe me you would not want to drive to it and definitely not drive back down, we left the bus station in brilliant sunshine only to reach the top in pouring rain and thick cloud, was, nt that impressed.
We went years ago, thought it was worth it but we did have good weather!!! If you are an experienced hill walker you can easily climb to the top of the Kehlstein, well marked path to the top but remember it is 6,017 feet high, nearly 2,000 feet higher than Ben Nevis!!
Another place worth visiting, especially if you have youngsters with you are the Salt mines, superb underground experience.
Plenty of parking at the Document Station at Eagles nest. We've stayed at Campingplatz Mühlleiten which is near Lake Königsee, excellent facilities & nice walk/cycle to Berchtesgarten & Lake Königsee. There is a bus stop close to the Campsite, which you can get a bus into Berchtesgarten (you get free bus pass whilst staying at the campsite) & then catch another bus to Eagles Nest & the Document Station.
Try & visit the Bunkers under Hotel Zum Turken (very eerie, but fascinating)
We went when touring Germany and Austria by car. As said above, you have to take their bus for the last stretch or walk...but it seemed a long way.
Loads of parking where you catch bus. Saw lots of MHs.
Definitely worth a visit
