Am I missing something here? (This investigation is result of trying to find leak causes). When closed, both my garage and habitation doors have a much bigger gap between their face and the van side at the hinge edge of the door compared to the lock edge. On the hinges, the flap (which screws to the doors) is off-set on the barrel. When shut, shouldn't the flap be close to the door frame when shut?

For each of the three habitation door's hinges, I have swapped the top of the hinge unit with the bottom one and now the door sits more squarely in it's frame (and the top corner of the door on the lock side no longer clips the door frame when closing).

I'm doubting this because the door hinge flaps have a smooth side and a rough side. I would expect the rough side to be touching the door, but that way round causes the wildly unequal gaps.

Any thoughts anyone?
(Hopefully the commented on photos attached make it clearer)

If you change the high around (as you have already) the screw heads will jam on the door frame when closed and there is a good chance that the hinge profile on the door flap will rub on the frame as it closes, I get your point about the gaps but the highs were assembled correctly "as was".

The pictures with the dome head screw, one shows the hinge with ribs, the other plain.
My guess would be the rib side would be against the door or frame to grip better.
May not have explained that very well.

Hmm... I see what you mean... But why then does the top catch side of the habitation door bang against the corner of the door frame when closing?

But then why do I end up with a massive gap on the hinge side compared to the catch side?

Sounds like the door is too big for the frame but as the two are supplied together that's not likely it's more likely the hinges are not quite right and are offsetting the gap a bit too much but turning them around as you have done may or may not be the answer as really the screws on the door side should be countersunk to allow the hinge to close flush to the door frame otherwise it is going to stress something.

Thanks Martin. I'm going to source some counter sunk screws.

I turned the indoor seal around on my garage doors as the gap met in the middle of the bottle of the doors, so water went down the rudder then though the join

So I placed the join at the top and I haven't noticed any water in the garage.
