I am thinking of buying a Chausson 630 2017, and I saw a thread about damp in the garage written by a member called Plumb.
If anyone has experience of this issue would you let me know what I should be looking for
Thanks
Wayne

hi and welcome.

look initially for any discolouration of the surface covering. that is likely to indicate damp may be or has been present. a cheap non invasive damp meter would be a good investment at around £25.
look around the garage door seals and door panel. floor areas of the garage.

ask the dealer to see most recent damp report.

Thanks for the reply, the sale is private and there has been no habitation check since 2018. Starting to feel I should hold off

hab checks are just that , a tick sheet really means not a lot, but a damp check is worth doing. if its what you want go take a look. then if all is good ask the seller if you can arrange a damp check before confirming the purchase.

i say you arrange then the report is yours and the person checking is responsible to you for whats on the report. you should get a straight damp check done for around £60 from a mobile service .

Thanks again for your help, I may have to take my overalls and a torch for the viewing 😏

To start with get a damp reading meter. Bout £20. Take it from there

Look underneath where the rear wall meets the floor along the whole rear . There should be a good amount of consistently applied sealent .
Take readings along the internal join . Anything over 20% requires remedial attention . More sealent and rear mudguards according to fellow Chausson owners . If way over 20 % then consider walking away as expensive to sort out . There is I think wood used in the join .

It also sounds the Chausson warranty is no longer valid as years missed .

Thanks, I'll have a look underneath, is it particularly the rear of the garage or the front? Remaining warranty will be void I'm afraid. How much would that affect the value would you say ?

We have a 510 so the boot area is only in one corner. We put rear mudguards on ours to reduce the spray hitting the inside of the rear wall , that hangs down beyond the floor. That is also where i have looked and seen the black sealent. I think the garage floor is all part of the underneath with everything else sitting on top of it. So if damp at the front , first thought, its getting in past a seal and lying in the top not coming up from underneath , unless the wheel arches are to blame somehow.

The Chausson owners facegroup page has reports of the rear wall at the back of the garage being a weak point, and made us have a look.

With the value of the van , think get the damp readings, hopefully the current owner will agree, then contact a chausson approved repairer, Cannock Resprays and Rivers motorhome hire would be my choice , as not dealers . Rivers seem to just hire and look after a fleet of chaussons, . Both would hopefully help with the prognoses of the damp and cost of repair.
Good luck

Thanks for your input, the seller has been very reasonable and allowed us to have it checked and cover any costs.
