I would think the OP posted because there are some, unlike your wife and my wife , who don't have a licence and don't feel comfortable on the back of a solo. They may feel safer in something like this.

My first bike at 16, a BSA A7, had a chair attached. Cost me £15 and I thought it was a bargain, until I tried to ride it home. The terrifying memory of those 10 miles has never left me. I have rode solos all my life and even passengered on a racing outfit for years. In all those years I have never once wanted to repeat that first ride.

A further development of the sidecar story is that an old mate is assembling a sidecar outfit he will drive from inside the sidecar. You should be able to see it at next year's Classic TT. I won't be on it???
