What do you do when your habitation door will not close properly and has to be slammed. You have had it looked at by a caravan tech, they didn't want to dismantle it to investigate (can of worms) but they lubricated it to get it a bit better, but three days later its back to where it was.It is getting worse and the narrow blind inside the door is developing repetitive stress disorder from the violence required to close the door as well.
The actual replacement lock is discontinued and you can only find a part of the mechanism in stock anywhere and that is £450.00! The actual door, were it available, would cost around £2,600.00.
This lock problem has been evident from the purchase of the van (early March) and has been a part of a set of problems which are mostly resolved now. We wanted to reject the van and could have done so but the wife caved and we decided that really, we loved it, just not the problems.

The dealer, who I have not confronted with this latest stress cannot, I think in all fairness, do anything about it that I can think of.

But the van cannot be written off because of a bloody door.

Don't know what to do, sensible suggestions very welcome HELP!

What lock is it? a picture would help

You purchased from a dealer in March?

You have raised or can raise the issue during the warranty period?

Dealers problem.

Most things can be fixed, let them deal with it and see how it goes.

The problem I have with that is I have to hand them back the van while they do this and I don't trust anyone with the interior of the van anymore. The last guy to fix anything laid a large sheet of cardboard on top of the brand new dust sheet I had covered the (brand new mattress) on the drop down bed with, as they were fixing the sietz skylight leak above it.
I know exactly what he did when he cleared up, He folded the cardboard sheet, tucked it under his arm and pushed his way out! This put a lovely set of full height scratches across the black gloss Fridge Freezer doors! I was so pissed off I didn't even complain, whats the point.
I seems they learn on the job how to fix one thing and bugger something else up in the process, not on purpose, but with little appreciation of, or respect for, the owners pride and joy.
I will do everything I can myself from now on or make sure I am watching whoever else is doing it.

Christ, that was another rant! Not very happy, am I:)

On the inside of the Hab door-is there a plastic slider for manual locking?

Don't understand why didn't you ask them to fit new panels on the fridge.
If the parts aren't avalible for the door and you still have a warranty you would be better taking it back to the dealer as if you try and fix it yourself they may just wash their hands of it if you need their help.

So, they scratched the fridge freezer doors and you said nothing.......
Sorry, no sympathy from me.
The door is THEIR problem... If they can't get the parts, it's THEIR problem, if they can't get a door, it's THEIR problem.
Somebody, somewhere, will have the parts... Its THEIR job to find them even if they have to look abroad.

Are the fridge scratches deep? They will probably t cut out if not. Although you should have complained at the time.

Complicated... The fridge door was scratched by a company I had asked to do repair and warranty work instead of, and with, the agreement of the supplying dealer, as the dealer is a long way away from where we live.
Trouble is, the people who did the work for us are even further away, we went on a second holiday near them specifically so they could do the work as we had great confidence in them after they helped us on our very first break in the area a few weeks earlier.

Now I don't trust them either!!

I cant tell you just how pissed off I have been with this van and the people involved.

Thanks for that.

Yeah I know but I only noticed them some hours after leaving the workshop, the wife got upset yet again and I'm just worn out with motorhome related disappointment.
They may polish out, I'll see.

My main question is, if either the door or lock cant be replaced what then????

Found this via looking for the make and model including 'lock not engaging'

"Inside the habitation door is a plastic slider that allows manual locking inside the habitation through a metal rod linking to the lock and servo. I took this off and found the sides of the cutout in the door were rough. I filed these smooth and lubricated the plastic sides and the slider with silicon spray. It is now working perfectly every time"

God bless for that Ryan mate, I'm off for a look...(y)(y)(y)(y)

Return it, not fit for purpose

You have to give them the opportunity to repair it first. You can reject it within the first 30 days if its not working as it should.

The fault should have been reported as soon as it was noticed. As its getting worse you either give it back to the Dealer to get it fixed, pay to have it fixed yourself or fix it yourself. If you decide not to let the Dealer near it and you cannot fix it yourself after trying the Dealer is not going to want to help.

Others must have had the same problem so perhaps there is a Rapido Owners Group.

Is your fridge Dometic? If so the facia should be easy to replace. Ours slides out when the bottom of the frame is removed.

The only picture I could find at short notice shows the door from the outside, is this the right type of door?
