Hymer Camp

I'm a Newbie
I have just bought a 1998 Hymer Camp. It has an Electroblock EBL104-3 with an LR02 Solar regulator. I am looking to upgrade the regulator. There seems to be a number of options for this, so I am looking for recommendations please.

Also is it possible to identify the the Solar panel(s ?) (wattage/age etc.) from attached photo ? I dont know whether it was installed from new or a later edition. It seems to be working OK but not had much chance to challenge it lately as just fitted a new Varta LDF90 Leisure battery.

I am OK with basic electrics/electronics but very little experience with vehicles.

TIA

Our Hymercar PVC has a Schaudt Elektroblock EBL 30 but I don't know how similar it is to yours. We had solar installed by our dealer and they used the PV Logic 15A MPPT Dual Battery Charge Controller. This unit has a useful feature because it will charge two batteries. First it charges battery 1 and then it charges battery 2. The 2 outputs from the controller connect directly to the Elektroblock solar connector block.

I'm having some trouble with my solar flexi panel but that is another story.

Measure the panels then look at ebay lisings most give sizes. Polycrystalline panels are a bit bigger than Monocrystalline.
For a regulator have a look at the Votronic MMP rage excellent regulator and have an output to charge starter battery, connection leads avaliable for Elektroblock.

To save removing the panel put your mobile phone on video and move it around under the panel till you find the label.

Have you been up a ladder?

I ask because, looking at your photo, (and I appreciate that it's a distance shot) it looks as if there are two panels fitted with a central bracket holding both of them in the middle.
Judging by the length of the panels, and this is only a guess, I'm going for 2 x 80-100w panels.

I've put LR02 into google and it comes up with a thread from the 'Dark Side' in 2010 that describes a Schaudt LR02 Reg and says in the thread that it would handle 14Amps. That would fit with my suggestion of 160-200 watts of solar panel.

There is a specialist Classic Hymer group on FB as well as a Classic Hymers Technical group where there are a lot of knowledgeable people who should be able to advise you.

The new one is MPPT , so more efficient In low light situation and has better settings for wet acid batteries.
