We are buying a new Auto Trail Scout and are going to be using it in the UK and Europe. We are from Australia but have a UK address for mail, mot, etc.
Does anyone know of a company that will do insurance for a couple of retired aussies.
(55-60yrs old, no insurance problems and full points on licence)

And don`t need us to become life long members of the EU, live in the UK for 20 years and jump through hoops backwards (so to speak)

Any help would be fantastic

Thanks
elande

Hi and welcome to motorhome fun xxx

Put the word insurance into the search facility on here, there is quite a wealth of information and threads.

As a few names from the top of my head that Ive seen mentioned on here, you could try Adrian Flux, caravanguard & Sureterm but there are more out there too.

I would suggest though you ensure that they will pay out the exact valuation this will mean photographing the vehicle and getting an independent valuation, because a lot of insurances dont pay out the valuation amount if you have to make a full loss claim.

I think its called Assured or Guaranteed Valuation insurance, but someone more knowledgeable will be able to give you the correct term

you seem to have the address problem covered but you may have a problem with your licence...most insurers proposal forms ask "how many years have you held a UK/EU licence"

search 'motorhome insurance' get an email addy for the various companies and ask them.

so much easier for us going to australia...bro in law just told his insurers i would be driving his car...job done.

same in spain...sis in law just told them..job done.

could have been more complicated if i'd bought a car there and tried to insure it though.

Might be worth looking at the Caravan Club range of services for insurance and getting your out of trouble.

Its not the cheapest, and luckily I have never had to use the services, But from what I have read, their pick you up, dust you down and get you home (may not be Auz ;-) ) services works well.

UK insurance for Aussies!

Not sure about specific help - I know the hoops just get smaller!!

But try NFU insurance for value, and Cooperative, as well as specialists in Club magazines which I'll suss out. (see Bakers). It will pay you to join the Camping & Caravanning Club - if only for their site list in UK (about £26 pa now ?). Nothing else compares (other than joining the other - ie. Caravan Club!!) - no commercial one comes near for number of sites (100x as many!!) or value on "listed" /CL sites.
If you want Continental travel /site recommendations let me know.

My local NFU office: 01824 703139
Coop/CIS: 00 (44) 161 930 8808

Bakers: 01242 528844
