A few more details of the vehicle, like make, model, A class, age of van, etc would help folk have a better chance of finding a cure if they've had a similar problem with a similar van for instance.
My guess would be fuse or relay, but not much more help than your own guess.
It could be corrosion and poor contacts on the relay or switch.

Is the wash-wipe still working? If so it’s not the motor or fuse, more likely to be relay or stalk contacts.

Thank you all...... have sent link for them so they can read all your answers. Rain ceased at present so they're trying to get to nxt. stop before investigating or calling breakdown but it not sure if that will be covered !

Sounds similar to an issue i had which resulted in a new wiper assembly.
The motors have an overheat shut off which was kicking in on mine due to corrosion on the drivers side arm linkage, wd40 sprayed on this did help but invariably would go again, very intermittent too.
So popping the bonnets and spraying the moving parts should keep them going for now.
But worth getting a replacement anyway, diy wise it took 30mins to change out, little fiddly but not complicated.
Look around as well, i got a replacement linkage and motor for £96, apparently they are normally triple that!!

Btw, once the overheat has reset through cooling down, it will work until it over heats again

Thanks bungy so long as it lasts till they get back but looking at forecast ; wipers will be on overtime !

Make sure they get the bonnet open and spray wd40 on the linkage under the scuttle, spraying the base of the wiper arms wont go anywhere usefull!!

Get to nearest Halfords and buy some Rain X spray. Spray all over windscreen and you don't then need wipers as rain just beads off windscreen. Always used it on my TVR as wipers often didn't work ( motor not up to job so eventually changed motor).

Thank you , I keep passing 'em on !
