Hi All
We are off to France again in June and would like to take our laptop with us. We would like to be able to browse and pick up our emails as we do in the UK but I know that some sites have limited wifi (Portlan) for example. We are looking for a way of getting internet access by way of a dongle using a sim card for example.
Is there a better way than this or is there another way?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Do you not have data on your phone and can turn on "hotspot" on the phone. That's the easiest way.
Or stop off at McDonald's and park outside. (y)

More than toes wet now!
Or a mifi dongle if you don't have data on your phone and want access outwith third party hotspots.
If you Search (top right) mifi on here you'll get a number of threads discussing this option (and alternatives).

I never use site wifi even if its free, just tether to your phone. There is a potential security problem using public wifi for anything financial, I just never take the risk.
Site wifi is often slow and/or requires your email address so you will be swamped with spam.

Thanks all for your input. I have a company phone so using that may upset my boss. I will have a look at the Mifi threads and go from there.

so your taking you 'work' phone with you, which means if there is an emergency you can deal with it 'FOR THEM'. I would imagine your boss is just happy that you are so conscientious …..

Hi Mister B
I will speak to my boss about taking the phone abroad. We want to be able to browse the Internet and pick up emails. He is usually very good with things like this.

I use a mifi with a PAYG "3" sim card - works fine almost everywhere, including Europe - but not Morocco.

I have tried to use campsite wifi but it's either 1/ too expensive and/or 2/ very slow. Also the security angle, only use it for browsing.

Well just got a Huawei Mifi unit for about £45 from Amazon and a data only Sim card and all worked strait out of the box. The batter in the mifi was actually charged as well!. We will see how we get on in France in two weeks time.
Thanks all for the advice.
