May seem a strange question but I am in the process of selling my house without linking it to buying the new one - I hate chains and would much prefer to be a cash buyer for the next home. However, this will mean that I will be living in the motorhome for quite a few months without an official address. Unfortunately, I am unable to use my parents as they are both in a care home. Need to try and stay legal and will have to inform the insurance company and I guess I should attempt to change my driving licence (not happy with this at the moment with the backlogs ....) Any help/solutions/ideas welcome.

If you have children (Grown up) or a trusted friend perhaps you could use their address as it is only going to be a temporary measure.

I believe there are companies out there who will provide an address for a fee.... Bit like a PO box but a physical address.
I think your biggest concern will be insurance, not many companies will provide cover for full timing and those that do will hike your premium possibly into four figures.

I wouldn't even think of doing either of these until you had another address to use even if it is a post box or similar to boat mail.

On the driving licence point,i recently (Three weeks ago) changed my old paper licence for a photo licence using my passport photo and it came back well the week.

We use our sons , good luck when changing / cancelling standing orders , Insurances , telephone , rates addresses etc, for us it was a nightmare , make sure if you use a relative you do your legal bit for voting/ Registering where you live / postal address , ( we needed a address as now living on a campsite until we find another bungalow) with the council that bit is easy .

Hi Tony50, This will be exactly the situation I will be in. Is it poss to use the campsite as an address if I have booked in for say 3 months? (asking the owners first of cause)

No legally, because of the campsite licence I had to have a postal address, I should ask the campsite, do you have even a friend you can use and make sure your post goes there our campsite won't accept post. I know it's a bind, as we have also paid for the post to forwarded from our old address to my son's

Life without an address seems to throw up so many issues! I was checking what the estate agents are required to check/confirm on behalf of HMRC for money laundering and once you have proved you are who you say you are (new driving licence/passport etc) you must provide your address! Without all the info and checks that are mandated by HMRC, estate agents are not allowed to proceed with you and if they think you might be dodgy/a terrorist they have to report their suspicions.... Will be visiting a couple of agents tomorrow to see exactly how they manage my sort of situation - I hope a family members address will be OK even if I am actually staying in my MH and touring the UK and the continent (if we are allowed!) whilst I wait for the right property. (Requiring room for the MH even at 6.2m limits your options somewhat but I really do not want to have to store it) The difficulties that the genuinely homeless must face must make my problems seem like a mole hill compared to their mountain!

We Kept our old address, and Used the Post Offices, "post restante" Service. But that was over 20 years ago. The biggest problem we had WAS the post office when we finally transferred everything to our NEW address!, being in the same village (some) post kept going to our old house!..

I used boat mail for 8 years and when I met Andrew and just had very few letters to his house I registered as a light user with Ghost mail for a fraction of the cost of boat mail but I found boat mail to be very efficient. I used comfort for fulltiming insurance. All the legal bodies accepted the address as boat mail gave me an actual address. I used to surprise some people when they asked me where I lived and I said Leighton buzzard and I'd never been there.

I currently use the Royal Mail forwarding facility from my own address which is let, but it could be that former address, to a friend who monitors post and sends me those bits I need. But the Royal Mail will only do this for 2 years. You can do it again after a year.

As I posted earlier boatmail.co.uk is probably best.

If you do go down the friend or relative route - don't do it with someone who lives alone - if you do, they could lose their 25% discount on Council tax

We used Mail Boxes Etc. when we ‘full-timed‘ for a few weeks after our last house move from Ely to Ciren, as the place we were buying did not do too well in a surveyor’s report (72 pages of ‘don’t touch it’!).

I use the PO forwarding for my parents who are in a home and it works well - I certainly hope to be in a new home inside the 2 years they do it for otherwise I'm a dead man as I have made promised SHMBO finding the next house will not be a problem!!!

My main worry is insuring the car and MH without a 'legal' address. Claiming I live in a very low insurance risk area when I don't would give them every excuse to not pay out should I have to make a claim. The other issue is getting prescriptions as both of us are on medication. De-linking the sale of my house with the next purchase was supposed to make life less stressful.....
