Yes they are fine for Spain. I do not think the Italians would stop a foreign plated van if using plastic rather than alloy

@Johns_Cross_Motorhomes sells the aluminium ones . Not dear compared to here.
The aluminium ones are the only legal ones here although you will hardly be likely to be pulled as long as you have one.

Having checked when we drove through Spain for two months I was told Plastic was legal and that Italy was the only place that Aluminium was legal as they were the only ones made there (On observation only ever seen metal ones made in Italy too) I will to be 100% certain ask a Spanish Police Person I know

I KNOW that the boards used on any vehicle longer than 12m have to be metal (car and caravan over 12m have to carry them ) and they are supposed to be permanently fixed

This is what is s aid on the Caravan and Motorhome Club PDF (https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/7707012/general_legal_requirements.pdf)

In Spain and Italy any overhanging loads must be indicated by a square panel measuring 50cm x 50cm with reflectorised red and white diagonal stripes. This can be purchased from Fiamma stockists: www.fiamma.com the panels are available in aluminium and plastic, in Spain you can use either, but in Italy panel must be aluminium.
