Miss M here, I'm Realists wife but the idiots banned for two weeks duh, but we need help.

So other half as asked me to join and post the below.

Anyone near Leominster that can suggest where to get a replacement diesel fuel filter housing from urgently.

I’ve a major fuel leak, RAC been out yesterday on site and replaced the filter and seal but just about to leave site so I checked and it’s pouring out with diesel again.

Reading up on replacing the fuel filters (just had a service done last week) and peeps say it’s a common problem and to change the whole housing as changing the filter will cause leaks, garage I took it to just changed the filter and now caused me to loose £66 in fuel, £24 in RAC parts and now still not fixed and we’re stuck on site.

So, anyone near Leominster with a spare fuel filter for a Fiat Ducato 2009 the whole housing would be great. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Sorry the idiot can't post himself, learn to be respectfully next time.

I changed our filter. You need a special tool (ours is draper branded) to tighten the filter housing with a ½“ drive socket bar. Think it was about 15 quid on ebay.

MissM Coastalmotorhomes may be able to help get one to you. Is your filter plastic or metal? I have a spare metal one but I think 2009 model might be plastic

I would get the RAC back out again.

They obviously didn’t do the job properly.

The same happened to us once in Spain. A guy from the local Fiat garage came to the site and fixed it. Cost €30 plus a drink for the guy.

If the RAC have looked at it and done repairs call them back and get them back out if they cannot fix it get lowloader home (if you have full breakdown ) good luck

Local motorhome dealer quoted me £600 to replace the fuel filter on our Ducato
Bought a pre-torqued fuel filter assembly from Coastal Motorhomes, and did it myself. Took about 20 minutes.

Sorry, just reread your post, and you're stuck on site.
Call RAC back, and tell them to provide the parts and service you've paid for.
The fuel filters are notorious for being tricky / stubborn - the casing must be torqued correctly. RAC bloke obviously didn't do that, hence why it's peeing diesel. Don't let them reuse the existing casing - if he's over tightened it, then it's fubar.

I had exactly the same problem last month in Moffat. Dumped diesel all over the pitch.Called the RAC and he was there in the hour, said I need a new casing then drove to Carlisle and back for the parts and fitted them. I had just had the van into the Fiat dealer for a major service!!!!! I asked him what time he finished work for the day and he said oh, about 4 hours ago! He earned his £20 tip!
So although I can’t help , I would call the RAC back.

sadly you will need either a circa £88 ebay fiat original part (complete filter housing, yours has probably split) or a best part of £300 fiat main dealer part.

Heading to wife's Aunt internment and ended up having to pay £288 for the filter housing from a fiat dealer and fit it myself.

Good luck.

Edit also sad is the fact when you know exactly what's wrong and you tell them it's going to need XYZ they fail to pass on any info to the tech on the basis that Joe pubic knows JACK

Well tnxs everyone for the advice, will pass it on.
We had RAC back out and he eventually ended up putting the other seal on as well to get us home, we are now about 15 mins away thank god...
Will look around tomorrow for a new housing unit ..

Fiat OEM fit is the UFI housing, they just charge 6 times as much for the identical item

To service the filter and replace the element, you just unclip the entire housing and use the correct tool in a vice along with a torque wrench. I know of mechanics that still say its fine to just use pipe grips but they always leak eventually

this is the tool

Try e bay and buy a complete filter with housing ,around £80.just a straight forward refit, 30 mins tops..
You can then mess around with the old filter as a spare.

Hi Everyone,

We’re both home safe now, ordered a new housing from Costal Motorhomes so should get it Tuesday.

The RAC chap had to use the two O rings an tighten the filter down and so far no leaks but we all learn but now the question…….

The original company who did the service do I now go back to them for the loss of fuel and the original cost of the RAC or just take it on the chin.

THANKS ALL,

Debs.

That's the problem with servicing the filter without the proper tools. It need a proper wrench tool and torque setting.some garages just tighten by hand and give them a knock on with a lump of wood and a hammer,or grip in a vice.
I would complain and at least get the cost of the filter back.
Next time you have it serviced make a point of the service excluding the filter replacement. Unless they have the experience of changing them.

I think only paid up members can send and receive PMs.
Other half is a lifetime member but as always his fingers type faster than his brain hence why he’s banned by Jim for 2 weeks.

Idiot.

martin2603 If you PM my other half Realist we can pick up your info and chat from their hopefully but he cannot reply to anything on the forum but I think he can still use PM.

Thanks,

Debs.

The whole problem with these filters has been well known for years, but many mechanics hate being told they are doing it wrong and £16 pieces of plastic could solve the problem. Unfortunately you are unlikely to get anywhere with the garage and be prepared to take it on the chin. But please do let them know of the problem they caused. It is possible they apologise and offer something

I’m back 😎

My misses above MissM says sorry she could not respond due to her time here was limited to a handful of posts so now my bans been lifted……..

Thank you all for the replies above and in the end I replaced the whole filter housing and the company who carried out the service refunded me the loss of fuel, RAC charge and an extra £15.00 as a good will gesture.

So vans back up and running but and yes there is a but………..

The company did say our main battery was u/s and needed changing but I didn’t have it changed as it was starting and we had no issues, the day after we got home I changed the filter and attempted to start the van, nope dead.

It was like the battery was flat but when tested it my tester while battery was on the van was saying all ok pass and the green indicator light was also green so I dismissed the battery.

In the mean time I had purchased a new replacement to swop over and again with the old battery the van would not start so I finally swopped batteries and van started first time but lol 😆………

I found via a search here that for some unknown reason fuse 35 had something possibly to do with the filter, battery so I removed it, tested ok and replaced.

Well, I had an issue with my Vanbitz alarm for months even to the extent that they sent us a load of new contacts for the doors as it was beeping 4 times on alarming the van but changing or twisting together the contacts cables didn’t solve the alarm issue so I just left it as is.

But since removing fuse 35 and putting it back my alarm now works and also the blue light also works as well where it didn’t before?

So, filter housing changed.
Refund of £115.00 from garage.
Fuse fixed alarm and blue issues.

So what next is going to go wrong 😡
