We have what we believe is an issue with our fridge ... we seem to be 'cursed' with issues with the blooming things.

Its a Dometic RML 9335 (3-way) and we found when we were away over winter that if we didn't give the centre left of the door where the handle is a good push when closing it, it didn't fully locate the locking mechanism so would open when going round corners etc. The door has a bow in it - touching at the top, wider at the bottom and even wider in the centre, a bit like a 'banana'. I've been onto the dealer to get it changes under warranty but they've checked with Dometic who said:

The RML9xxx doors do have a bow to them. You’ll usually see that the top and bottom are the same and the middle is little wider.
As long as the seal is touching the body all the way around then the door is fine. The bow doesn’t affect the performance of the unit.

I need to get back to the dealer in the next day or two so I'm gonna re-check the seal etc tomorrow and would appreciate if others with similar Dometic fridge freezers could check if their doors are like this as I don't believe we should have to forcefully push the door to ensure it locks.

Below is a picture of the door which I've turned 90 degrees as it makes it easier to look at (the top is on the left).

Sounds like they giving you a load of BS, I can't see how that is acceptable. We have had two 8505's a similar design never had that problem.

Looks like it's time you got into stroppy girl mode.

Had a Bailey Caravan with the same issue.

Was a pain as unless you gave it a big shove, the seal wouldn’t locate.

Refused to replace under warranty.

I think they are talking piffle! If it was meant to have a bow, why produce them like that?

Have a look.at the pictures on their website see if it is straight

Have a look here Mel. May be a similar problem that will eventually break the catch!

Thanks Rex, I've seen that before, he's changed from an old catch to a new one but ours has the newer type catch already. :lips:

Series 10 has been out for over a year
Some people are ever happy, most of us can only dream about a Dometic fridge working that well. :giggle:
Ours is a 2019 Carthago model built before the new one came out.

here are some pictures, it does look slightly curved

<Broken link removed>
I've just downloaded a picture from there and put it on powerpoint with a 'line' by the edge of the door it and it looks like it 'might' actually be slightly 'bananaring' the other way, but I suspect that's down to the way the photo was taken.

We have an RML9435 fridge in our Burstner. Just checked the door edge and it appears perfectly straight. It closes properly with a gentle push and opens just as easily.
I can understand Dometics comments about the door being very slightly bowed in the centre, when latched, the door would straighten up and seal, but yours just looks excessively bowed. When you can, I would show your dealer and ask to see a couple of other vans with the same fridge to compare the doors.

That Picture looks almost the same as our 2015 thetford!

Well while were on the subject of Dometic fridges does anyone know how to get the front cover off a 8 series AES fridge. I will be needing to get at my door opening mechanism sometime in the future as the rod inside has moved a bit and sooner or later I will need to get at it to correct. Hope I'm not hijacking this thread :giggle:

A very late update on this ....

We found that the fridge door had become even more warped during our 2 holidays this year meaning the 'door open' alarm kept going off even when it was tightly closed (we had to put a thick foam pad on to 'fool' it into thinking it was tightly closed) but this made it difficult to open as the catch was very tight. As it was out of Carthago warranty and not knowing what the actual warranty was from Dometic (could've been up to 3 years) I contact Dometic but was told it was only 2 years so to go back to my dealer and only if they were unable/unwilling to help to contact them again.

Consequently I contacted my dealer and mentioned that as I had indicated an issue whilst it was still in warranty back in 2020, and that there were reports of a faulty batch of doors with this problem, that they see if Carthago will accept it as a warranty claim. We had some discussion about it being out of warranty but I mentioned the Sale of Goods Act which means products should be 'fit for purpose' etc and that my contract was with them, so if Carthago wouldn't sort they'd need to, they were under no illusion that either they or Carthago (Dometic) would be sorting it, not me (I did it nicely though!). After supplying more info and photos to my dealer which they forwarded on to Carthago they were subsequently advised to put in a claim

The good news is that I've just been told that Carthago have accepted it and a new door is on order!

I've asked for it to be sent to me so I can fit it as there's no way I'm going all the way to Birmingham to get it swapped over when it's easy-peasy to do.

I knew it was too good to be true! Got round to fitting the new door today, or tried to, can't see how to get the ruddy screw off that holds it onto the top hinge and without removing that the door can't be lifted off, but that's not the major issue ...

I'd asked the dealer's service chap if he'd checked the door (ie opened the box and examined it) and he said he had and it was okay ... well it flaming well isn't! After looking at my existing door and not seeing how to remove it I thought I'd see if there was any info on how to do it with the new door so went and got it out and discovered that it's bust ... there's a section where the top hinge fastens which is missing having been broken off, it's a good job I checked myself before actually removing my door otherwise I'd have been well and truly peed off!

Taken photos and emailed them to the dealer so hopefully they'll get back to me about another one ... whether it'll be here in time for me to fit it before we go away I haven't a clue.

Photos below show the broken bit along with one showing the other side which isn't broken:
