Went to fill yesterday. Pump stopped at 5 litres. It's a 11kg tank and it was definitely empty.

I can try again today and maybe the float just got stuck. It's oy 18 months old and always been ok before but it has been empty for a few weeks.

I searched previous threads as I thought I had seen this before but I couldn't see anything.

When you lock on the fill gun, wait until pressure equalises fully, no more hissing, then press the fill button. This can take several seconds, specially if tank is empty.

I think the tank was completely empty and no hissing when connected. Was going in fine then slowed, then stopped. Just like it was full.
Maybe the pump sensed that the pressure was high and shut off.

Are you sure the tank was empty? I ask because we had the same issue once with our 14kg Alugas bottle. The gauge showed empty. Filling stopped at 8litres. But then the gauge showed full. This suggested to us that the bottle was not empty. I understand that the gauges are a bit hit and miss.
p.s. I don’t get hissing when connecting, only when I disconnect.

My gas it tank was notorious for showing incorrect readings...they all can be. I remember putting 1.50 worth in when I first got the van as it showed almost empty and it was in fact virtually full

I was definitely empty. Light as a feather and no gas in van when tank on. Other tank full and fine

If the tank had gas in it previously, you still have gas in your tank, from regulator to fill point with the tank in the middle it’s same pressure. When you lock on the gun, you open the one way valve on your fill point. This allows the gas to escape past your fill point and equalise with the fill hose on the fill gun. It’s not the same hiss as you disengage, but definitely audible as gas rushes out.

Us too! Was slightly embarrassed when filling up in France. The garage had requested sight of a passport before filling up as the point was out of sight of the cashier. Pratted about with adaptor before putting in marginally more than the minimum deliverable amount (1 litre). Red faced when went to pay the .68p.😊

I know the OP said it was empty so I imagine there is a differ t issue here but my experience was...

I went to a few filling stations in France to fill it up (Gaslow) and they all really struggled, filling very slowly. I then discoverd I'd used far less than I'd thought and the reason it was slow was that it was full. (Full is 80%). It can try to fill beyond that but you shouldn't as it is unsafe.

I ran it down properly over a few more weeks and the next time it filled properly with a clear cut off. You shouldn't try to fill it beyond that.
