I have found a really good web site in English set up by the Spanish police to help English speakers deal with driving on Spanish roads. Details like how to identify a real Spanish unmarked police car and how they will ask you to stop for a check, new rules for pickup trucks that came into force in July etc.
The easiest way to get the info is to sign up for the free email that comes out every 2 weeks in English.
I have learnt quite a few things like it is law in Spain to have a bell on a pushbike etc.
the web site is http://n332.es
I hope this will be of some use to people, also search back through old emails on the site.

If you scroll down to No 5 it has an interesting point about spare tires
  1. EQUIPMENT
Motorhomes have to carry equipment in accordance with Annex XII of the Reglamento General de Vehículo, as follows: A set of light bulbs and indispensable tools for changing the bulbs, two portable warning triangles, a spare wheel or temporary wheel and the tools to change wheels or alternative system for changing them, providing sufficient guarantees for vehicle mobility.

Likewise, when the vehicle occupants leave the vehicle and occupies the roadway or the shoulder on interurban roads, they should use a certified reflective high visibility vest, according to Royal Decree 1407/1992, of 20 November.

Does this mean that tyre repair kits are not valid????????

Suppose this could be another grey area...it could apply to Spanish Reg. Motorhomes but not to visiting ones....generally speaking roadside repairs including wheel changing is not allowed, roadside assistance Grua will take the vehicle to a place of safety and the required work done there...in this case a flat tyre would be changed at a tyre workshop.

No it doesn't.

What the Guardia Civil Trafico guys who run that website in their spare time have done is copy and earlier translation of the original "Instruccion 08/V-74" memorandum from the Director General de Trafico, which was issued in 2008 (that's what the "08" bit in it's title means).
Many Spanish laws have moved on since 2008. What they SHOULD have done is to get a qualified lawyer to go through that old document and update it where regulations have changed since. But they didn't.
These Trafico guys on that site mean well. But they aren't legal experts, they are just traffic cops......and that is NOT the same in terms of training as (say) UK Traffic Cops. They are trained far far less (frankly not at all actually) in the tiny details of obscure bits of law.
They may stop you and fine you for speeding. They may stop you and fine you if in the mood for you towing a car, etc.
But it's the obvious stuff that they concentrate on.
but they will never ever, ever, ever stop you to have a look to see how many warning triangles, yellow vests, and spare wheels versus cans of puncture repair gunk you are carrying.

And remember boys and girls, these are the same guys who you will pay an on the spot fine to for an outdated offense as they don't know the revised rules.
If they did it would have been changed on their website.
