Our E510 has been on the drive since I had the fuel system checked out by S&S Diesel Services a couple of weeks ago. There was an intermittent misfire and the red light would flash on a trailing throttle. They removed the pump and controller and no fault was found. They test drove it for 13 miles and again, no fault found. I drove it home and no fault found.
I started it this morning for the first time no problem, but the engine would not rev at all, and depressing the throttle produced clouds of blue smoke but no power. I rang S&S and got a 'Nothing to do with us' answer! 'Could be anything' they said.
Any suggestions before I call out the Home Start people?
Thanks
John
PS. Janet wants me to sell it now...:(

Blue smoke is oil burning, black smoke is semi-unburnt diesel particles ( soot )
The below link includes blue smoke issues (y)

Flap over. I just went outside and it started and revved perfectly, with no smoke at all! It had been standing for a bit, a minor aberration perhaps?
Happy Bunny now!

Is the oil level in the sump too high?. Sometimes that is all it is the crankshaft entrains oil producing a mist which is burnt off. Once the level is normal it vanishes.
More seriously occasionally water gets in the sump, oil floats on the water raising the oil level, same effect, except you then likely have a water leak.

Are you the 'Janet and John' of Wogan fame.?
Man up John and tell her you're going back to France with, or without her.
On the other hand.......

A few years.
As said check oil level. A small amount of oil in the turbo will cause blue smoke on start up that then goes until the next cold start. Get the turbo checked over for end float/oil seal failure.

has it got a flap in the manifold to stop running on when turned off, if it had not opened properly it would stop it from reving and could possibly make it suck oil down valve guides if worn, mondeo,s and smax diesels often wont start if they have a stuck flap usually a whack with a mallet frees them and all ok again but ought to be stripped and cleaned

We've been together for over 25 years, and you can read us like the book, but as I have been divorced twice I really do know which side of my bread is buttered!
Thanks all for the advice and help. I'll check it all out.
