I’m trying to connect my Victron Smart Sense via a VE.Smart BT connection to my BlueSolar 75/15 MPPT solar controller to transmit battery temp info to the MPPT In advance of installing lithium leisure battery.
I also have a BMV700

I’m aware the Bluesolar 75/15 MPPT and the BMV700 are not natively BT equipped, but i have a VE.Direct BT Smart Dongle attached to both and i can see the MPPT, BMV700 and the Smart sense.

I’ve set up a VE.Smart network on the Smart Sense that is transmitting battery voltage and Temp info

but i can’t work out how to pair the BlueSolar MPPT to the VE.Smart network… there doesn’t seem to be the optiion in the settings

Any ideas?

At the risk of causing more confusion after yesterday's battery dimensions ...

I don't have a separate gauge [your Tess ...]. I downloaded the Victron App, and when I click on that, it displays the MPPT Controller in the available Devices dropdown menu. Tap on that and the Bluetooth links with the Controller, I didn't have to pair the Device. The only problem is that I have to be within about 1m of the Van itself for the Bluetooth to make the connection, otherwise it displays 'No Devices Found'.

As I said earlier, I'm technically inept, so, if I've got the wrong end of the stick, again, just ignore me and the post!

Does this help?
Unfortunately not 🙁 the issue is I'm not getting the VE.Smart network option on the BlueSolar MPPT.

I believe I should though as I have the BT dongle attached

I just created a network for my 2 smart solar controllers

VE smart networking appears in the solar controller menu

Then I added the other controller to the network

^ that is the problem I have. The VE.Smart network option is not appearing in the settings area of my BlueSolar 75/15 MPPT. I thought it would with the BT dongle attached 🙁

Ok I would have thought you would have seen the Smart dongle as well.
I assume that when you got to settings on the MPPT and click on the three dots ... and select product info you see the mppt and the smart dongle?

I'm just trying to establish if the MPPT knows its connected to a Smart dongle

ive unplugged the BT dongle, but there is bo easy on / off swich to the MPPT - as it is powered from the battery and solar, so i would need to disconnect it from both

Did I not read that the smart dongle needs to be plugged in before powering up the unit? Was that not in the manual? Maybe the troubleshooting bit of the smart dongle.

2. Installation
• Connect the dongle directly to the VE.Direct port of a compatible Victron product.
• Ensure that the compatible Victron product has been powered up so that the dongle is also powered.
• On power-up, the blue LED will blink, and the red LED will quickly flash. The red LED will give a short flash to confirm that the
red LED is functional.

I guess it depends on how you interpret that second sentence, I read that as connect the dongle to the unit then power it on but you could also say connect it to a powered up unit.

It doesnt work so in my mind I would power it down and up again

Found the answer :(
the both Victron BT dongles i have are not compatible with VE.Smart networking. I either need a new updated BT dongle or new BT equipped SmartSolar MPPT

Today was the first time I've been able to see the Smart Battery Sense temperature sensor preventing the victron MPPT from charging when temperature was below 5C.
It was cold overnight and the battery temperature dropped to 4C overnight, and the temperature sensor prevented solar charging even in brilliant sunshine until the battery warmed up above 5C

The specs for lithium batteries and temp cut of seems to vary between manufacturers. I have seen one as low as 0 degrees centigrade. I guess it's more to having more or less leeway rather than the lithium chemistry
