Oh dear it was all going so well!

I was reversing into a tiny plot in camping les sablons and my awning hit a tree. It’s no longer usable.

Can anyone help with a company that can ideally come to me and replace it please? Or repair as a second choice.

It never rolled up very well before so I don’t mind replacing it

Thanks russ

If there is no damage to the van or the mounting brackets just unscrew the few screws that hold it in its brackets and drop it off.
A new will just drop into place on the same brackets.
It will take 2 of you.

There is likely a motorhome dealer in or nearBeziers you could get a replacement.

The problem with any diy on these awnings when on the road is access, not many take step ladders, let alone 2 for a 2 man job!

Narbonne accessories seems the best bet. Its a Thule Omnistor awning – 3.35m long, wall mounted. I was hoping to swap like-for-like but oif they only do Fiamma i can just remove completly and start again?

They may help replace it and disposal of the old one.

Or consider ditching it and going for a drive-away gazebo/awning.
Lot's on here have done that and after having one damaged beyond repair and the new one needing a replacement leg we have decided the next time ours fails it's farewell to the fixed awning for us....

i must admit if we had to choose now to fit a wind out or not it would be a hard choice between a windout and a simple canopy into an awning rail. we have tried all the safari rooms etc and they weigh an absolute ton and are not for us.

the windout is convenient and easy yo pull out and retrieve.

but

it weighs a lot, its a problem in anything other than a breeze.

By the time they had taken off the excess then increased your premim for the claim + on every other vehicle that you own for the next 5-8 years you might as well be burning £50 notes. I'd never inform a UK insurance company of anything except a right off unless I had to .Any accident I'd be doing the claiming myself & if they had to be informed then I'd be including in the claim 8 years of increased premiums on every vehicle.

yes, the insurance company said "try a local garage and claim when you get back". But that involves removing the old one and thats it.

I'm going to try and twist it back it, cable tie it and sort things when i get home. I'll buy a cheap gazibo for the rest of the trip - i'm not going to need the awning after this trip until next summer and it gives me time to make a clear choice of replacement

Agree wholeheartedly, however an experience in France in 2017 showed that isn't always possible.
Driving through a small village a van driver started to emerge from a parking spot and our mirrors touched, mine was unmarked, her's smashed into bits (my Renault Master trumped her VW!). No worries I thought, her problem, just stopped to check everything was OK.
A crowd gathered, obviously friends of hers and I felt somewhat vulnerable so I reluctantly left my name and address. She would have noted my vehicle details too. She asked for my insurance details but I refused.

Some weeks later my insurance co. contacted me to say she said "It was my fault and her insurer had traced mine, so what's my story?"
Submitted the info and expected at least a strong case on my side. However it is now on my record as an incident with both parties to blame and I still have to declare it for 5 years etc. I can't say if it's made much difference to premiums but suspect so.

thanks all i managed to get this sorted.

Someone messaged me and very kindly phoned 'a man that can' nearby. He turned up on time, unscrewed the awning and took it away in his flat bed. The helper wants to remain anonymous but I’m very grateful

That was after a fellow funster (Mick) walked over from his plot to help when i arrived. How about that for useful?

Thanks again

Hi Russ!
I'm not anymore on holidays. I wanted peace for a few days, hence I told you to do it by pm.
I'm very happy everything got sorted.
I was about to give a few info to the funsters.@Trevor Wbm . For example the one you just gave didn't want to do the job, and so answered a few ones.
I'll start a thread tomorrow for you all to bookmark different people I had on the phone when looking for help for Russ!

Some years ago we needed help with our solar panel 'control doings' whilst in the same sort of area - only to discover that Narbonne Accessories close for a few weeks annual holiday during July/August. We did get it replaced more locally to where we were! Phew. Also got a tyre repaired nearby as we'd apparently driven over a ruddy great bolt somewhere en route - it was only ever flat at the bottom. There's me in a petrol garage asking in 1966 GCSE O level French 'Est il un place pres d'ici ou il est possible pour acheter un nouveau pneu?' Bien - there was! And they repaired it, so only cost us a short arm rather than a whole one and a leg!
