I need to replace the sealant on three of my window frames. I have done the research and bought Hodgson Seamseal CV.

The problem is that somebody has previously used what looks like white adhesive/silicone when sealing window.

I have removed all the clips and cut the adhesive from the inside around the frame but no movement at all in the window frame......help please?

Is that inside or outside as window needs sealing from outside not inside because you are only seal damp into the body of the van

Are the Windows leaking in?

If so you would be better taking them out completely, cleaning old sealant off window and bodywork, then resealing using the Hodgsons

My aim was to remove the window, clean and re-seal with Hodgsons (3 tubes on van)

The problem was that the manufacturer has bonded the window in place and damage would be caused removing window and frame.

I have spoken to Pilote dealer and local motorhome engineer, both have advised not to remove as costly as may damage frame or window.

The frame is well bonded in so I totally agree.

Been advised to clean around window trim and re-seal with Sikaflex 512.

There is only a very minor leak so intend to follow this advice but I would appreciate your views please?

Thanks
Toady

Did round the outside of my window frames with grey sika to match the frames , after masking off the area, cleaned area with alcohol before a neat fillet applied. Now looking much better than the old joints. 😊

You should never fit Windows and rooflights in motorhomes that can be removed, non setting sealant or tape is best, what do you do if you damage one on a overhanging branch etc.

It's poor construction if you ask me.

From the look of it, the frame is bonded in, so the only way, and if you absolutely have to replace it, is to cut the frame up to remove. But you need the correct replacement, checked and ready to be installed

I agree, thoroughly clean round the frame and prep with isopropyl alcohol, then a neat bead of sikaflex or puraflex40 at a fraction the cost

Careful with white Puraflex 40, it goes pink with age. OK on the roof where you cannot see it.

Bloody You Tube, it all looked so easy until I started the job. 32 Celsius on van!

Up early tomorrow to apply the Sikaflex. Joys of motorhoming me thinks.

What do you think to applying the Hodgsons around the frame on the inside of the van before re fitting the blinds??

an absolute waste of time putting mastic on the inside
