Hi, we are on the ferry to Cherbourg for our first trip to France, we are here for about 10 days ( no return ferry booked yet).

Has anyone got any tips or good places to stay/visit in and around Brittany or Normandy.

Good food and drink is always at the top of the list but all suggestions gratefully received.

You could find the most westerly tip of European mainland.

And stare at...................

.................. the sea.

You could try La Baule, claimed the finest beach in France.

I'd say head into Brittany. My abiding memory of Normandy is the smell of cow dung!

All towns and lots of villages have restaurants. Look where the locals eat. Sometimes the exterior of a place might not look spangly but it has the best food.
Auberge means an inn, usually country style food.
If you see a Relais sign, you might think they are transport cafés but French lorry drivers expect to be VERY well fed.
Lunch time is 12 noon til 2 pm, the main meal of the day.

It's cheaper to eat from the fixed menu, 2 courses with coffee for anything from 12 to 25 euros.

Pick and choose from the menu and it can get expensive!

Enjoy your trip.
