i'm a newbie
Hi,
My name is Steve, I'm from Rossendale, Lancs.
I'm not sure if i'm suffering from mid life crisis but i've got this crazy idea of selling up, buying a motorhome and spending the rest of my life away from the rat race.
I was originally thinking of doing my own panel van conversion but when I costed everything up I realised that for not much more I could buy a beautiful motorhome.
I would be living in the van full time (I wonder how many do?), so staying on sites permanantly would be unaffordable, and from my research I would need to improve the solar generating capacity of any motorhome I chose, in order to survive off grid for a few days at a time (at least in UK).
I will be on my own so don't need anything huge but a permanant bed is a must.
I quite like the Autotrail Frontier Mohawk, but also looking at the Eldis Autoquest 155, Swift Esprit 484 and Swift Escape 664.
I'm sure I will be needing plenty of advice and hope the friendly folks on here can help.
Steve.

Long term a few years now.
:WelcomeFlag:(y)Fulltiming is not a crazy idea at all but it is not all romance of the road you tube vids either(y)
Have a plan B if you do decide to go for it incase it goes thruppnys up. For fulltiming you need a winterised van . All of the vans you mentioned in your origional post are not .
In my five years of , long terming , i have experienced lots of people in brit vans having problems water freezing , less insulation, colder etc .
I am not saying brit vans are bad at all before anyone starts just my opinion.
Steve as well .

Welcome. Here's something to consider. We met a couple doing exactly the same thing but they bought a brand new commercial van to convert. Did a fantastic job for under 40k. They were careful to not put too many windows in it so that it still looked 'commercial'. Therefore they could park it anywhere and consequently not pay any charges. Good luck.

Hi and welcome!
People having problems registering self builds with dvla at the mo.
Biggest expenses fulltiming are camping, diesel and insurance.
So free camping as much as you can and travel short distances. Overseas warmer in winter. Biggest pain is getting laundry done lol

Thanks for the replies. I can defo say that's the warmest welcome I have ever received on any forum!

Steve, I had thought about the underwater tank possibly freezing and wondered about the feasibility of relocating it to the garage area, but it would appear more research (and many questions..!!) are required!

Our 155 has an insulated underslung water tank as standard (2019), but, as we haven’t had any prolonged cold spells (yet!), I do not know how good the insulation is....... ;)☃❄🌨

I had a winterised Autosleeper Broadway which experienced that freezing "Tinsel meet" at Shrewsbury in December 2018, -6c daytime temp and -12c at night. ❄☃️
No problems with tanks freezing. Just couldn't twist the tap to empty the grey. It was frozen solid.
