Hiya Folks

We're new to motorhoming, bought our first van in January this year to give us some idea or wether or not it was for us. We've had some great fun learning how everything worked but didn't hang on to it for very long................ just over 6 months, we traded it in a couple of months ago for a van we'd looked at last year but thought it foolish to part with so much cash for something we knew nothing about.

Can't believe we picked the wettest summer since records began to shelve our passports & go camping in the UK!!! We'd love to venture abroad but don't feel confident enough for that just yet.

As a beginner i doubt i've anything meaningful to contribute so i'll just tag along for the ride for now if that's OK.

Hope you all have a good time this weekend at Bosworth, we're heading North to Carlisle on Thursday, Newton Aycliffe Saturday, Hartlepool Sunday & back home to Stoke-On-Trent Monday, hope the weather picks up a bit.

Bryan & Kathy

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Keith.......... We just about managed to break even when we traded in, so no real financial pain. I expect we'll take quite a hit next time round though.

We've never been to a meet / rally, will give that one some thought. What actually happens at a meet / rally, is it organised activities? or is it just a case of turn up & socialise?

Do people bring their pets along? We never go anywhere without our dog.

Hi

we are totally new to all this too, we met a few from this site a couple of weeks ago at a meet, very informal, and was a just turn up and socialise thing with a great bunch of adults, kids and dogs

We have a folding camper that we only bought a month ago, and everyone is welcomed

If you can make a meet you will be so glad you did, fantastic way to learn so much from the ones that already know, and a great way to also meet ones that are like yourselves just learning, hey you could probably teach us a load of stuff already

be warned this bunch love to have a laugh, have to have a sense of humour, but I am sure you will fit it fine

Hi Bryan
Glad to hear that you got away without the pain :roflmto:
Regarding meets, we try to organise meets around the country, and as the site grows we are hoping that more people will organise meets local to themselves thereby spreading the meets geographically. We live in the Midlands and as a result it is almost impossible to organise a meet a long way from us, be able to arrive in time to greet people as they arrive and relax ourselves, it is just not possible when one has to work for a living ::bigsmile: This is why we would like to encourage others to organise locally to them, and we are always happy to help and assist.
Getting back to what goes on..... Well basically it depend upon the meet and what you want to go on. The hosts are simply that, they will sometimes have something organised and should you wish to join in, then fine. If you want to go for a walk or and afternoon kip, that is fine also. We do not tell people where or how to park their motorhomes, the site will have any rules that should be observed and that is enough rules in my book.
Mostly informal meets are an opportunity to get away in ones van, set up and meet other people in a friendly, sociable environment, again joining in is at your own discretion. Most times we have a gathering in the evening where everybody joins together and cooks their dinner and eats in a communal manner, some people prefer to eat separately and join us later for drinks etc. The main focus is just getting to know each other and mixing with people that one chats with on the web (so to speak ). There is never any pressure to do or not do anything.
Pets are a part of the family and as such are welcome on meets, sometimes a site will have rules about animals and that needs to be established when one books.
The booking is made in ones own name, you can let the site know that you are with the people from Motorhome Fun and ask to be sited close by the rest of the group, sites usually try to comply with this request, we have no issue with anyone informing the site that they are with Motorhome Fun as the booking is made by an individual ::bigsmile:
I would suggest that you may like to try one of the smaller meets at first if you are not sure about them, you will have fun I am sure, then you will be ready to join in on some of the larger, more popular meets. As I said, there is never any pressure put upon people to do anything that they do not wish to do, all we ask is that as an attendee, one arrives with an open mind and a smile ::bigsmile:
I hope that this helps and please feel free to PM me or RockieRV if you want to know more ::bigsmile:

Thanks Poor Relations & Keith for an insight into a 'MEET', sounds like something we'd prolly enjoy, no doubt you'll see us at one soon.

Just checked out some of the photos from Bosworth & it looks like you all had a great time.

Maybe i should put the following in a new thread, but here goes anyway.......

We had a wonderful weekend away visiting friends in Carlisle, Newton Aycliffe & Peter Lee.

Stopped of at Blackford (Dandy Dinmont - A7) Friday night & Hartlepool (Crimdon House Farm - A1086) Saturday / Sunday night.

For those that like this sort of info - 400 mile round trip, 8 hours driving & 70 litres of fuel to fill back up to the brim (26mpg by my calculation)

No hook up at Hartlepool, so got chance to try out a rewire job i did last week to feed the mains sockets from the consumer unit via an inverter........... pleased to say all ran smoothly.

All in all a successful weekend blessed with good weather & good company.

Bryan
