Have been looking out for some way to make the Heki roof windows more secure & only option that we have found so far is this one which is expensive & doesn't prevent opening.

Has anyone made something better or have any ideas how to make these windows more secure? If so please post here or PM if you prefer.

You won't EVER make it secure

I'm just saying go on the roof and look at it and you'll see why

I found out after the motorhome hab door locked us out with ALL our keys, phones, bags, money inside

if you can't see it then PM me and I will tell you where to look

Maybe I'm being thick, but what is the bar actually supposed to do?

If someone is prepared to climb on the roof, they are pretty brazen and not worried about damage. Surely there are quicker ways for them to get in at that point, like just smash a window?

I suppose it's probably aimed at those who like to leave the roof vent open when they leave the MH so makes someone being able to drop in through it more difficult, however I think it is way over-engineered if that's what it's for and I'm sure there would be a much cheaper and easier way to do it.

Initially thought from their website photos that it was fixed in the slots to prevent the window from opening but, as others have mentioned, on the video it looks like it is a barrier to make the opening too small for someone to get in through. As @Madcaravanner kindly pointed out preventing the window opening wouldn't necessarily prevent access so guess that's why this barrier method is preferable. Now if someone could come up with a gadget that prevents opening, forms a barrier, looks good & is not too expensive that would be great!

All security can be overcome so just prevention measures to put any potential thief off so they choose an easier target especially if overcoming the security, like smashing windows or using a cutter, makes noise. We prefer to add security but can see that there is a case too for those who don't so that if broken into there is less damage done.

We had a problem with our Heki rooflight flying open while driving at speeds over 60 mph, so I bought and fitted a pair of these. Probably would not stop the scroats forcing it open but will offer resistance which might make them think twice.

Would have thought they would choose to break in through a plastic window or glass one rather than getting on roof.

Just thinking 'out loud' but I'm wondering if there would be a way to adapt a window lock to secure them ... might have to have a shuftie when I'm next in the camper.

Another 'quick fix' could be to put a chain round the lifting mechanism (as in the below pictured cord) but rather than it being a 'friction held' in the bracket on the frame, a bathroom door bolt was used with a link from the chain put over the 'bolt' before it pushed into the locked position (obviously you'd need to fit the bolt and receiving part of the bracket too. ...
