There’s an app to avoid the CAZ.

https://apps.apple.com/app/id323229106

I’ve been dealing with it every day this week - driving my brother to Oncology at the BRI every day - there was nowhere to drop them off, so while he and his wife were getting out of the car, I dashed in and keyed in the registration number of my car into a machine for an exemption - thank goodness the machine was working and there wasn’t a queue!

I forgot to take a photo of the exemption confirmation screen - so just hope it registered!

We live local to it and a right pain in the bum when we're using the van. The Cumberland system - which is a strategic through-route for us (A4 & A370) and is in the Bristol CAZ - is nowhere near the city centre, so can only wonder why it's been included...

The inclusion of the end of the A4 (Portway) and the Cumberland basin bridge in the CAZ is nothing more than a blatant money making opportunity. The entry to the CAZ could easily have been made at Hotwells road and Cumberland road leaving the Basin Bridge a free route to south Bristol and the P&R park. Instead drivers have to negotiate the A396 (jcn 18 M5) to avoid it winding road with a steep hill at the Bristol end. Thats if they even know about the caz. Indeed the route to Bristol Airport is still signposted off the M5 at Jcn 18 (A4 Portway)

Just to add a bit about the charges.

To enter the zone without a charge you must be euro 6.

Euro 5 or lower Motorhomes up to 3500kg are charged £9

Euro 5 or lower Motorhomes over 3500kg are charged £100 unlike Bath there is no reduction to £9 available.

So taking the A4 Portway could be an expensive mistake. If you do find your self on the A4 there are 2 escape routes (3 if you include driving into the river) The first is turning left at Sylvan Way and making your way back to the M5 through Shirehampton, if you miss this turning the last opportunity is just before going under the clifton suspension bridge there is a sharp U turn up Bridge Valley road which will take you the The Downs.

So anyone thinking of attending the Balloon Fiesta this year plan your route carefully

Those that make these decisions are they trying to turn Bristol into a no go to place.

A mate at work said it cost him to go to Chabots shopping as the car park is just inside the zone 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been going in and out of Bristol every day this week, and the traffic is just as bad as ever!

We live in between Bristol and Bath, and we’re ok for both cars to enter Bath (not that we do - we avoid Bath like the plague), but we pay £9 for the privilege of MOTing the van, and we have to use my car if we go into Bristol (which we usually don’t - avoid it like the plague) - if we do go in for a mate’s gigs at Seamus O’Donnells we use our bus passes!

The trick is to take the left turn at the lights immediately before the carpark and then enter the carpark from this side road. The side road is outside the zone.
It is about 30 yards of zone to the main carpark entrance, I was sitting first at the lights last week on way to physio and contemplating the two signs - madness

And for us, in our 4.6T Frankia, 2km from Ashton Gate, across the Cumberland Basin to the bottom of Bridge Valley Road will cost £100. Sure it's included to make money. The signs on the M5 still direct Bristol Airport traffic off at J18 and down the Portway. Our alternative route to the M32 takes us past many more residential areas than driving through the centre of Bristol or across the Cumberland Basin.

I got caught going to the airport as the signs to the airport still send you via the basin. I have been I the area this week and keep getting told how many people have had to change their cars because they live there and have to work

But have you checked the UK website as I'm a Euro5 and exempt

Exactly the same results for our 2016 Fiat Ducato Euro 5+ engine, sub-3,500 kg. Bristol charge £9.

Annie if you think that the result is incorrect you can use the clean air zone support service to raise the matter. You even have a couple of examples of other vehicles that are exempt to support your query :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I think it is correct, just that RM_Marine ‘s seems to be out of step.
I am not bothered as have only driven through once to balloon fiesta camping - oops have booked again this year so will go around and approach from the south 🙂
Our cars are all exempt so can drive through without worrying.

I just checked mine if I went in that zone and it will cost me £100. Think I need a good map.(y)

2013 2.2 Peugeot, no charge for Bristol on their checker , good , we are there in the van a week on Monday .

Have route planned using google maps which shows the non-toll route to Aston Park school where CAMC have their Balloon Fiesta site. Looks like I can add to the congestion around Lawrence Hill and Temple Meads for free 🤣

For those that have a blue badge there could be exemptions.

And if moho is registered as disabled: ie free tax then I'm led to believe that is also exempt.
