Joan and I are going to Spain on the 28th of December for what has become our annual trek. We have been on Pride of Bilbao a couple of times but at that time of year the journey can be very uncomfortable. We now go through the tunnel for about £55, which is't bad for a 7 metre camper. We will only take a couple of days to get through France because it gats a bit chilly. Once into Spain there are lots of sites that are very reasonable especially if you use the ACSI card, available from vicarious books. We will aim to be in Benicasim, just north of Valencia for the 4th of Jan. Three Kings day is the 6th of Jan and is their Christmas day. They then have a week long festival there which will start on the second or third weekend of Jan. It is excellent and has to be seen to be believed. We will stay in Benicasim for about a month before assessing the weather and deciding on the next move. Bonterra Park campsite in Benicasim is very popular and booking is advisable although there is another site called Camping Azahar only about 1 kilometre away which usually has vacancies. Both sites have very good facilities and there are plenty of supermarket type shops close by. If anybody is intending to travel at the same time, 3pm shuttle on the 28th of December, we would be happy to share our experience with you. I am a bit of an old plodder and generally dont exceed 60mph. We stay on Aires de camping car in France.

Hope you have a great time, don't expect any new year celebrations in France, the place shuts down and all parties seem to be private ones. We have to stay until after Christmas because of the family commitment. Have you done the Christmas abroad trip before? Do you have to return to the UK so soon? We always stay longer when crossing the channel because our base is Carlisle and it's a long way to the coast. Have fun. Tony

What's all this about cold and wet in France over Christmas? Last Christmas there were several RVs on site, with a champagne starter on Christmas morning, and we all sat out until 4pm on New Years Day following a BBQ lunch - if you fancy a continental Christmas then come on down!!!

Wherever you go, drive safely and enjoy the travelling.

I'll kind-of second ParcVerger's comments about the weather in winter. Sure, it can be cold (at times very cold) ... but it can also be surprisingly mild, and often beautifully sunny:Cool:
