Hi, New to the motor home scence and had my first trip last week that went well and gave me a chance to get familiar with everything.

This week I am going to Haydock races with friends and decided to stay over a couple of nights and meet them there. The trouble is the nearest site seems to be 5 miles away. Is there anywhere nearer that anyone knows of? Could i wild camp near the area? This though is not my fave option....I suppose I could drive near the course and park up and walk in. One other question, do race courses accept motor homes into the car parks? It is only a small one, well a converted van.

I am a big fan of racing and would like to plan other trips so any advice is welcome.

Thanks

the only campsite i could think of would be HOLLY BANK at warburton[ just outside warrington]. its about 10 miles away but very accessable for the 15mins drive up the M6 to haydock. as regards wild camping , there are a number of country lane pull ins not too far from the sandy lane/park rd rear entrance/exit at the racecourse itself [just over the east lancs road and down the A573warrington rd springs to mind]. alternatively the nearby haydock trading estate always has foreign plated lorries overnighting there. by the way just up the road is the lymewood farm pub and they do an excellent carvery ! hope this helps garry.

If you only have a van conversion I don't think they would stop you parking on the racecourse car park, a phone call would probably get the answer

I doubt you could overnight though, you still need to sort that bit out

Sorry, only just seen your post.

You could have wild camped at Carr Mill Dam. About two miles up the East Lancs from the racecourse.... (in Liverpool direction), turn off at the Carr Mill traffic lights and turn right STRAIGHT AWAY into the car park of the Waterside Inn.... but don't go into car park, keep going down the rather potholed road and the dam will be on your left. Pull up anywhere there... a lot of fishermen stay on that road ... Nice walk for a dog if you have one around the dam..

We live about a mile or so from Haydock Park, there's plenty of room on my driveway to park up overnight, electric hook up if needed, can arrange a taxi to races, just let me know. :thumb:

Mmmmm I thought they locked the gates till the next meeting?

Well worked out well, stayed at the mentioned campsite although was'nt that impressed with the place, but that's another matter. I ended up parking in a church car park around 150 yards away from the course, v little traffic although I was an hour or so early. No charge and no bother when I came out, a few seemed to use it as a free car park.
