We’re just about to do this as we’re going down to one car so let me get this right. You pay the £80 to take it off and retain it but do you have to pay another £80 to put it on next vehicle when you get one? It’s normally £80 to change isn’t it?

Thats correct. We have just had ours done . The Private plate was held for the last six months at a cost of £80. I believe it can be held for up to 10 years?

No you don't pay again. The £80 includes the assignment fee for putting it on the next vehicle. You get a Retention Document which lasts for 10 years. At any time in those 10 years you can assign it to another vehicle without any further payment, which can be done on their website.

That’s what we are doing reduced to 1 vehicle ( the motorhome) for now £80 to keep the old plate then free to put on another vehicle within 10 years. ( Might fancy Abarth toad eventually) If symbo allows

Hers went through online ( been on car 14 months) and v5 came back in 5 days
Mine (been on 6 months) got the message ‘cant do online due to car history’
Mystery
Thought it might be length on time on car

Still haven't retained, Im not posting anything to the Swansea black hole

Our situation is the exact opposite, wife’s reg cannot be done online ? I have sent the paperwork to the black hole already because we were selling the car but now everything is on hold.
