Little old ladies and men!!!

The original post was about solo,s or a solo not being allowed to stay although booked and paid for and accepted in advance. Then being turned away.!!

Hi briarose
I think we met in the showers at Searles last week, I spoke to the office and they told me that single people are vulnerable on their own, cobblers, anyway as
I said we were talking to a man there last year and he was on his own !!

We were on York rowntree site and an elderly single lady arrived next to us in a new PVC. We got chatting and she said she was meeting other singles as she had trouble filling her water tank my husband helped with trips the water tap with ha watering tank! We made a new friend but when I saw water running out of her van went to tell her she said she always let her grey waste out as it does no harm!! I'm sure she wasn't banned for this !!( made me shudder!!)[/
And that's because she was a single traveler ?!!!!!

The lady and the gentlemen outside the showers, and you said you would be furious if it was you ? I can't believe their reply to you.....VULNERABLE on our own....wow that throws a whole new angle on it !!!! how ridiculous.....so how do they think we cope day to day. Anyone want to throw this question at them ? They aren't replying to my emails ?

Being only 21 :pinocchio:, I feel that I should put this to the test. I wonder if they would let me in on my own if I wanted to join my parents for a few days and then stay for a few days after they go home ...
Go for it and ask.....now looking at what they have said to another poster on site.....take some cotton wool with you, you will need it if your parents go home to wrap yourself in, as a single you are vulnerable !

When i phoned yesterday and said my daughters family would be in their caravan, me alone in my motorhome that was fine. But when I said I'd changed my mind and wanted a break on my own , I was refused a booking.
I think at some time in the past someone in charge has got a bee in his bonnet and gone into hysterical overdrive about lone holidaymakers. No information, no research, not sought advice from police or similar and just thought up a rule. In the past I've had people I had to work with do the same thing and insist I "must" implement their newest thought. I had to sit them down and point out their newest thought broke this law, that law, or contravened a point of my registration.

But of course any of us can phone to make a single's booking, then write a review on Trip Advisor.

Totally agree...ESP now I have read the post from the couple I met and what they were told there. Did you ask the reason ? Or did the just quote T&C again. I think it certainly is time to hit Trip Advisor. I feel I have now given them days to reply to my email, and also my Friends ! Another Friend tried to book was refused so emailed back saying he was offended by the T&C and wanted an apology ...he hasn't had a reply either ! No surprise there then.

I just had a thought.....ref the vulnerable bit. The lady on Reception knew I was with Friends as it was the Friends in Reception asking why I couldn't go on with them. In fact they had asked for adjoining pitches.

Still getting started
TBH I have some sympathy with the site, I would think that the main reason for this rule is to protect children from possible sexual preditors, So because of the PC brigade and not being able to check criminal records etc, they have to put a blanket ban in place, as they do have a duty of care.

According to the Office for National Statistics there is no "typical profile" for those who perpetrate sexual violence against others other than 99% being men. Does that mean only women should be allowed on camp sites to demonstrate their "duty of care"!?

It is like we have already said so stupid.....and single or not single isn't going to make any difference to someone with ill intent..

But now I know I am vunerable according the Searles...I have just been out to buy a large roll of cotton wool to wrap myself in. That's me sorted then.

Why will this forum not allow the use of the word C.obblers who repairs shoes
Because Jim has some clever software doohicky that converts it....there's some other words I think too but I can't remember them offhand.

It pays to actually read their policy,so they specialise in families, fair enough then IMO, absolutely no different to sites that are adult only.
Not really as they are giving out different reasons as to why. And if you read the policy...it actually states accommodation allocated ...not your own unit, so you wouldn't know. Also to add if that's the case fine .... But why let people travel there and then quote T&C as I have stated several times...when booking on the phone that morning ...nothing was said or asked. And the same thing would have happened to the as lady who was going to go there for Xmas ! So it was a total shock for her when she read my posts....and in disbelief rang up to check, and told she would have been turned away after a two hour journey. I can't see what's fair about that to be honest.

Ps also I am part of a family....not some outcast as a Widow ! And I am no different to the person that would have been welcomed a year ago had my Husband been with me.....talk about being tarred with a new brush now. As Eve says second class citizen.

I've read and contributed to this thread but I have to wonder why we're giving this particular site so much exposure. It's a shitehole, I really don't understand why anyone would choose to stay there.

Surely the effort would be better expended in suggesting places where it's actually nice to stay.

There was no policy to read Sir as we booked the 2 pitches over the telephone and therefore the reading of their terms and condition was not applicable in our case!

I am briaroses best friend since school days and it was myself and my husband who were travelling with her in our motorhome when we all checked in at Searles. The receptionist said my friend could not come on their campsite because she was travelling on her own in her own motorhome and single people were not permitted onsite. We were all flabbergasted as like I mentioned we'd booked over the phone and nobody had asked how many occupants per vehicle when we booked! I just could not understand what problems they believed a 57 year old female who'd recently lost her husband could possibly cause and when I queried this the receptionist politely pointed out that she did not make the rules!

Consequently my friend was greatly upset by this experience, and it has left her feeling like she is seen as some kind of oddity! Losing her husband after nursing him through cancer has knocked her off her feet as they did everything together, they married when she was only 17 and she is desperately trying to face life without her soulmate by her side! She has been very brave and trying hard to move on with her life and she decided she did not want to give up the motorhoming lifestyle that they both she and her husband loved so much.

I think it is shocking that any campsite can ban single travellers simply because they do not have a partner and I fail to see how anyone cannot see that this policy is discrimination personified!

It's ludicrous to suggest single people are a threat to families and children and it's unforgivable to tarnish all single people with such an evil, sick and twisted brush!

Bloody hell if this is the attitude of the MH community, that single people are all paedophiles and are banned from campsites, then I don't think I want anything to do with it. (I'm married but use the MH by myself at times)

All this duty of care crap is just that, crap.

Why would a single bloke staying in a MH be anymore likely to be a paedophile than anyone else, and to just blanket ban every single person from campsites is just plain wrong.

The world has its head up its Arse.

single people can stay in hotels, b and bs etc so why not campsites?

Shall we ban single people from supermarkets, pubs, libraries, cafes, restaurants just in case?

I for one will be boycotting any site that has this policy.

To be fair, the site has not said why it has this rule. The theory that it is related to paedophiles is just the suggestion of one poster Bartiny. The real reason may be quite different.

For goodness sake, how many times can this be 'discussed' ... before Eve or whoever jumps on my back and says something like 'wait until you are a lone female' (not a nice thing to say in the first place seeing as I've been married for 34 years!) ... I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE RULE but it their rule and they can make it if they want. It is no different to another site not allowing children, or pets.

The ONLY thing that was wrong IMV is that they did not mention it at the time of taking the bookings over the phone.

Thankyou Sue.....I admit that other post made me feel just how I did on the day. You know how much Searles set me back that week....you mopped up the tears x

It's a matter of principle Nicknic!

Is it?

Can I in good conscience make a fuss about someone not being allowed to stay somewhere that I would recommend they avoided like the plague anyway?

Not sure why you've quoted my post and Sue's ... I thought we were now supposed to be 'talking' about the policy itself and the rights/wrongs of it, NOT an individual's own personal circumstances.

Nothing can make up for you feeling as you did Briarose and whilst I empathise with you the rule is in place and no amount of going over it again and again on this and the other thread is going to change that ... it will just keep making you feel bad.

As I indicated before if it keeps upsetting you please, please, please, don't keep winding yourself up about it all by constantling posting ... it simply is NOT worth it. You are a strong lady I'm sure so get yourself out there to sites that DO want you to stay and enjoy yourself.
