I am wondering whether it is possible to fit an intercooler on my Hymer 2.5TD engine to increase power. If someone has done it successfully I would appreciate having some details. Thanks.

An intercooler would allow a small boost tweak too - well worth the effort I'd say. I don't know if anyone has done it & if not there are a few car tuning firms that could no doubt come up with the hardware.

@Wildbill has just explained intercoolers to me today while we were stripping my engine down. He may be able to advise how easy this is?

It's a motorhome, not a boy racer's ride.

Is it really worth the effort? I'd spend the money and time enjoying time away in it.

Later Ducato with 2.5tdi engines 1994/1998 (Iveco 8140.47) have an intercooler, so it might be possible...

If you read the link the guy who done it found it gave him more power on the hills, Some people just like tinkering doesn't mean your a speed freak, What the difference to this or getting a newer van remapped nothing just helping the engine work a bit better

It's very easy to do you just need the to fit a couple of flanges of the 2.8 it'd
I do have sum sumware the 2.8 it TD manifold fits straight back on to the he'd of 2.5 TD with no modifications
Then the inter cooler rad good whare the fuel filter goes depending on whether you carry a spare or not depend where your fuel filters going but a fairly straight forward job
And well worth the effort especially on the hills

Many thanks for the responses. @Wildbill I do carry a spare which is mounted above the air filter so appears little space for the inter-cooler. It looks as though the project will be too complex for me. I have added a huge slug of Dipetane additive which cleaned up the exhaust for the MOT and seems to have released a few bhp. I will wait and see how it performs when next driving over the Pyrenees.
