Has anyone done a comparison of Air Fryer against Home Gas Oven ? (1 Viewer)

I’ve seen comparisons of Air Fryers against Electric Fan ovens, Microwaves etc but not against Gas oven in the home.
Though Gas per Therm is cheaper I feel as though we use more Gas warming up a bigger area for longer, what’s the consensus?

I can cook a whole chicken in an hour using my Ninja air fryer, it takes 10 minutes for my main oven to get up to temp then around 1Hr 20 mins to cook the chook. Never done the sums but it must be cheaper I would have thought.

With gas being a 5th of the price of electricity you could run the gas oven for several hours for the same cost as an air fryer.

There was a programme on telly a few days ago(C4) called Air Fryers, are the worth it? (Denise van Outen).
They did some comparisons vs electric ovens, etc.
Also included what folk were cooking in them, etc.
Worth a watch.

As a recent purchaser of an air fryer ( Ninja Maxi ) the ease of use / speed and quick cleaning of the fryer sets it above both gas and electric conventional ovens makes the purchase worthwhile.
The air fryer will definitely be utilised in the van . We only do EHU sites .

There's a nice little 2 litre Daewoo air fryer at Robert days in black for 20 quid I just bought for my mum.

Giving consideration for one for the van.

10.5 inches high. 10 inches deep and 8 inches across.

I'm not sufficiently penny-pinching frugal at home to worry about it so my gas oven is fine.
If in the motorhome and not having an inverter and a grand's worth of lithium I'd have to stay on a site and pay for EHU so it would be a lot dearer overall than using my refillable LPG.

Unless comparing an incredibly large air fryer or weirdly small gas oven then they are hard to compare given the difference in volume.

I like my air fryer because of the way it cooks and is definitely quicker for a lot of things, but I couldn't fit as much in as a proper over, whatever the power source, so don't see how the comparison could be direct.

Fun fact....micro chips take 2 mins in a microwave to get a soggy mess.

3 minutes in my air fryer to get nice crispy chips from frozen
Or 2 minutes if you left em out an hour before cooking.

I think the convenience and speed of the air fryer wins for some things never mind the cost. Depending on the power rating I doubt it uses that much anyway

Had to eat humble pie. I was very against an air fryer. My wife bought one, now I would not be without it at home. Baked spuds, chips etc take very little time. Even do a whole small chicken now and then. My only grip is they do make a bit of noise, but probably not much more that a fan electric oven.

If you are cooking for one person I don't think there is any competition. If cooking for 3,4 or more then the oven will probably win.
Also depends if the gas oven is in house or van. In van the air fryer will always win even if on LPG I think?

Gas is in home and it’s for 2 The reason for the question is that my wife tends to use the Gas oven a lot if it something that easiest cooked in the Romoska, but we recently bought a Tefal Air Fryer for the speed and potentially healthy oil less cooking. I am just concerned that in reducing Gas use we are in fact spending more on Electric

We use our Ninja Foodi a lot not only as an air fryer also use the pressure & slow cooker functions a lot but if we had a gas oven I would use that.

Tip: Don't cook a Cherry cake in the air fryer, it was not good and took a lot longer than it would have in the oven.

I economise with my gas oven at home which is far too large for just one spud by heating a cylinder head, rocker box or wheel hub at the same time to ease removal of the bushes or bearings.

(Yes, of course I live on my own ).

Could you clarify what type of air frier.. there are two types , perhaps more..

is it the Ninja type with the drawers, or the one we have that is basically a small fan oven with a rotisserie .. is is great, bakes, roasts, fry, pizza , chips , etc

Have just ordered an air fryer, I feel it is just a remoska with a fan, but have to admit it doesn't do good chips, (we rarely have chips, only when out) do like jacket spuds though but will probably still start them off in the microwave. John is the mover on this, mate raves about sausages, breaded fish, scampi fish fingers, sometimes have fish fingers, but I am not a fan of breaded food.
Watch this space though i may end up singing it's praises . Oh it is a dual drawer one can do chips and a crumble at the same time
Good news is the not used for some time coffee maker will be going in a cupboard.

We have the Ninja dual small version. We do meat joints on dehydrate 60c for 5 or 6 hours then blast for a few minutes
Beef yesterday was fantastic moist and rare, but pork belly is out of this world so juicy and tender and crackling to die for. Only used the oven once or twice since having it.

Our Ninja foodi 15 in 1 does a medium chicken in approx 30 mins in the van. Don’t use the onboard oven cos it’s crap so can’t compare. Not bothered though as very large lithium supply and if we happen to be on electric happy days. The foodie is our oven of choice.

Just been reading that report.
They keep banging on about the upfront costs of the air fryer.
Are there any upfront costs for conventional ovens or are they free.

I like using the air fryer, my wife still prefers the oven. I think they probably balance out on running costs depending on what we’re using them for.

I could put a little piggy bank on the side and tell my wife she will have to put 10p in it each time she uses the oven. Problem with that it would probably come from my small change pot

We are that sold on our air fryer that we have not even bothered to option in an oven on our next van which is on order. Waste of space in our opinion
